"But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."

Jesus, Mark 13:32.

Does it say in the Bible that it is a sin for us to speculate?

Oh not at all. As long as you don't try to swindle people like that kooky "minister" a few years ago.

And I think it's a long way off personally, at least another thousand years.

I think you missed my point. It was a rhetorical question.

That was all you needed to say in the first place.

asteroid hits earth.

We'll know a long time in advance if it's going to happen, which is a plus (we're already tracking asteroids that have a VERY small chance of hitting us 100 years from now LINK / ).

Not necessarily. We wouldn't be aware of a long period comet on a path to hit earth very far in advance

Extinction events can be hard to stop. We assume we can locate and stop any object but I don't believe nuclear bombs don't work as well in space, due to lack of reactive material. In theory we could open a portal that would transmit the object passed the Earth put on a path away from us like in "Astroids."

The real question is where are we in relation to the great filter.

there was an editorial in today's paper suggesting that having Trump and Hillaroids as our choices might signify the beginning of the end of time

I wish I was at a computer.

Go to wikipedia and look up duration of species across the world, then look for land animals.

We're talking 3 million years at best. 1 million is average.

So, we're well on our way to be wiped out.

The Rapture will take place long before then. Hopefully in my lifetime.

5) Humans are resilient whatever our descendants are after homo sapiens I'm sure will still be around somewhere.

6) For Earth, it's here until Sol goes red giant.

I think in the near future the greatest possibility for an extinction level event for humanity is AI. We'll get there eventually, and it'll either wipe us out or push us to heights that we can't even fathom now

When that happens. Humanity dies unless we have figured out a way to colonize another planet.

CBS News Coverage 1970 Earth Day

We only had a few years left so we were told in 1970. The Earth was just about to croak and it was all mankind's (but especially America's) fault.

We are developing a subspecies that we feed and house, like pets. Will we continue this as natural resources wane or will we cull the herd?

I would say 4 & 6...those timeframes seem like a long time, but are just a tick on the historical scale.

I think our society will be very different in a thousand years, but we are too smart as a species to let ourselves go extinct from anything that we can control.
