I'm not sure about the Masters side, but they have a great Information Systems concentration in the business school. Really helps prepare people for more technical work than the average business degree.

Business Building is also under a lot of reconstruction right now. Should be nice and pretty by the time you start classes

Yeah I really don’t have much choice. My employer dictated MBA with concentration in engineering management. It’s nice though because the program is setup like an executive MBA meaning night classes / online format, but my employer is treating it as if it’s full time.

I'm looking at going on a similar path a little later in my career.

Out of curiosity, is that an MBA with an Engineering focus or the MEM through the Engineering department?

Initially I’ll be a full time student at UAH, but eventually transitioning to Redstone.

If you're young and single, there are a few nice apartment complexes along University Boulevard that are close to UAH and can get you to the Arsenal pretty quickly. The Providence area is pretty nice. Moderne at Providence and Walden at Providence are good apartment complexes right in Providence. There are some other decent ones in the area. Emerald Ridge is along Plummer Road with really quick access to Rideout Road (Research Park Boulevard). If you'll be going to UAH and then Redstone I'd probably avoid Owens Crossroads/Hampton Cove just because they are "over the mountain" and a fairly long commute.

If you have kids, Madison is definitely the way to go. Real estate is pretty inexpensive in Madison considering how good the schools are. You can look along Old Madison Pike for some very affordable housing in a good school district. I'd suggest living on the east side of Madison (as close to Slaughter Road as you can get) to decrease commute.

Congrats on the move. I’ve heard nothing but great things about North Alabama lately!

You’ll like it.

I like what I'm hearing about the area. Not a huge city and generally good schools. Also good fishing lakes and just a few hours away from the Smokey mountains.

Lake Guntersville just east/southeast of Huntsville supposedly has some of the best bass fishing in the country.

From my understanding, Huntsville does have good schools, is a family friendly area but at the same time has a scene for adults too, the hunting and fishing seems to be decent around there, terrain isn’t ugly, also Nashville is pretty close too for expanded entertainment options.

Definitely could be a good place to land.

The Huntsville City School system is a complete shite show right now.

I want to move back home... I really do, but I keep hearing about this from family constantly and have a 7 month old right now. While I still 5 years to worry about schools, at least my options in the Birmingham area seem better than what Huntsville offers right now.

If I could find a job in the Huntsville area that allowed me to live in Madison though... (I've had a pretty rough go of trying to get back to Huntsville though, just not high enough in Tech work to even get a call back yet)

ETA: OleWar, if you are going to UAH you might as well live in Madison, if nothing else at an apartment on the east side of Madison, would be an easy commute down 72

Lol I’ve got 4 kids. I’m looking more for a 4 bedroom minimum type place.

I've been a lurker for 5 years, but this is the first time I've felt I should speak up. I have lived in Huntsville basically all of my life except four years of college. If you are single and not an extreme introvert than DO NOT live in Madison! Everyone I work with lives in either Madison or Tennessee and not one of them will leave the comfort of their cookie cutter suburban house. I would recommend 5 Points, Mayfair, Medical District, or if you are wanting to live in apartments you should look into Monte Sano apartments, The Artisan in Downtown, Belk Hudson Lofts in downtown, and The Avenue located in Downtown. I live in the heart of Huntsville and my kid is zoned for Blossomwood. Grissom and Huntsville High are not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I know several well-to-do families that have put their kids in Huntsville City Schools and they have no complaints.

I don't know your budget, but most of all the elementary schools East of the Memorial Parkway is perfectly fine and your kids will have a great education. My recommendation as I've already stated is to look for places in Huntsville first.

As far as gyms go there are several options. You have the Huntsville Hospital Wellness Center byms, YMCA, Planet Fitness, YouFit, and a few others that are escaping me. It all depends on your preference.

Hope that helps

***I just saw your post that says you have 4 kids so ignore the apartment recs****

Sure, compared to really bad schools. But there is no denying both Grissom and Huntsville have gone down hill quite a bit. The state scores make that abundantly clear.

Besides, he has four kids and will be going to UAH then Redstone. Madison is by far a better choice than eastern/southeastern Huntsville.

Trust me, as a Grissom alum I hate to see what has happened to the school. But it is what it is.

Athens... Athens is the next Madison... just opened a brand new high school. You can get more bang for your buck on a home in Athens, compared to Huntsville, or Madison.
