Houston was supposed to. Highs were forecasted to be 96/97. nah, hit 100 by 3PM.

but the humidity was super low, so it didn't actually feel hot.

BR broke the streak yesterday with a cool 97

Yep, and it actually felt like 97°. That's what a dew point in the low 60s instead of the upper 70s will do for you. The heat is one thing, the humidity another. Even areas outside of the "dome" have felt hotter this Summer because most everywhere has seen higher RH than normal, hence all the talk of record breaking streaks of Heat Advisories, even in areas that have been below Normal in temperature for the Summer.

With all the talk of the Tonga volcano eruption contributing to the hotter Summer, I want to see some research done on how it impacts relative humidity at the surface. That interests me more than temperature.

If it makes you feel any better at all, it seems that more Houston area weather stations (and y'all have a heap of em) didn't hit 100° yesterday than did. Of course, 99° isn't much different, but moral victories count in times like these.

Farmers started burning off fields and all the dust from harvest has the air quality terrible. That’s a lie

My fish farm looked like fricking Maui yesterday from all the damn smoke I can’t believe they’re letting farmers do it with the burn ban in place

What is the primary crop over your way? I didn't even realize burning after harvest was still a thing in the US. That's generally a third world approach these days. I've lived around a bunch of fields most of my life and they've never burned. However, they do love spreading chicken shite......tha arseholes.

Where are you?

There’s no sugarcane burning right now, it’s planting season.
Wheat was harvested back in May/June.
No need to burn behind beans.

Rice country maybe?

General question but why do most hurricanes originate off of the west coasts of Africa and Mexico?

I asked because we have everything but sugarcane planted around here, cotton, corn, wheat, soy beans hell....even field peas occasionally, and they have never burned. It must be something more common in certain areas.

The short answer is: that's the way the wind blows.

The jungles of africa and central america were the best places to build/conceal the weather machines

It felt a little like heaven yesterday in my area (Birmingham), 83 degrees at noon yesterday with 41% humidity and 86 degrees when I left the office at 5:00. The dog and I enjoyed a long walk last night when we could actually breath for a bit. It's 90 today, but humidity is still lowish.

After reading up, yeah the winds coming off of the Sahara desert explain the Africa part.

As far as Mexico it’s the winds again, but only that area of the pacific has warm enough water to sustain hurricanes.

Many storms off the Mexican coast start their journey as energy coming from Africa that never develops across the Atlantic/Caribbean.

That hurricane that was falsely blamed for the Maui winds came from Africa as a wave that ultimately developed in the Pacific and crossed most of it.
