2nd to the fact that Tokyo/Japan is fantastic. People are wonderful. it’s safe. Well run. The citizens are deferential. I could live there, but they probably wouldn’t let me stay!

Honestly, if you’re interested, the word is called “Wa”. It’s a Japanese/asian/tao word for harmonious culture. If you go against the wa, you bring shame to your family/neighborhood.

I got really interested during the tsunami years ago and why they didn’t riot and loot over there.

Wa is the answer.

They really frown on Waffle House brawling and looting the Nike Stores. Do they even have ingredients for a proper jug of purple drank?

No diversity and a government that actually tries to improve the city. America could be so much better if politicians weren’t corrupt cocksuckers.

What expenses does each city cover?

For instance local schools in the US are funded in a small part on a national level but mostly on a state level. Looking at NYC they cover 50% of their public school funding. Is that representative of how Japanese public schools are funded?

Louisiana and Tokyo are close to each other in budgets.

Japan is more heavily taxed than the US so there may be more to this data.

Wa isn’t why they don’t riot. I’d risk a ban saying why riots in America happen.

Tokyo was fascinating.

Clean as can be.

The wife and I went to a hole in the wall bar at 2 AM in a back alley and we were walking passed women walking home alone without a care in the world.

The place is insanely safe.

Great city.

we had the same experience... it was a little weird to be in such a huge city, late at night and not have to be on guard the entire time....

You’ve ingested way too much soy. Imagine spending your life burying your head in the sand about reality so you can “get back” at normal people.

It is incredibly weird.

Loved every minute of it.

Didn’t feel unsafe once.

The issue being brought up isn’t the degree of taxation.

It is that American citizens get horrendous returns on their taxes.

People would care less about paying taxes if their streets were clean and well-managed, their cities were safe, their public institutions were well run.

That is the issue.

Americans pay exorbitant taxes and the return is crap-level.

You’re not happy with shite schools, bad roads, police departments that don’t function, and garbage that isn’t picked up?

So japan is higher taxed and gets more back for it? Interesting.

Personally I don't think anyone would go for having higher taxes even if there was more in return. Just American way of thinking. Ascension is a great representation: they are one of the top areas in the state and everyone still complains they don't want higher taxes. Last year Livingston voted against pay raises for teachers and there schools are up there with the best.
