I know, I know…how dare I say this. In B4: He’s a hero. I’m a nobody. How dare I be inconvenienced. Who do I call when I need help? It’s great for his family to see. I’m a POS. Frick me. You hope the criminals come for me. Yada yada yada.
Can you read this post and discuss this topic with an open mind and civility? Is there a better way to show support? Any ideas?
Honestly, it sounds like you need to take your complaints to BLM.

I don't think it's being dramatic. I missed happy hour over this yesterday.

"Impacts the whole city"? Good Lord. With all the "issues" you raised, how many actually happened this time? Last time? Any time? Safe guess none of them actually happened. A man gave up his life for his community & his family is devastated for life. You had to sit in traffic for a bit. And I have seen many military processions over the years. Highways/streets draped in American flags. Cars pulled over out of respect. And you had to sit in traffic a bit. This is America today, no wonder this country is so screwed up.

Someone lost their job for being late to work due to the traffic.
Someone didn’t make an appointment for a medical procedure due to the traffic.
Some sales rep wasn’t able to bring lunch for a dr’s office and now has to rebuild a relationship due to the traffic.

Why don’t we close roads for our military men and women killed in the line of duty? Why is it only for local law enforcement?
This is our local law enforcement. He got shot in the head trying to save fellow officers that had been murdered by a BLM activist, and local thugs tried to finish the job at the hospital.
The entire point of closing roads is to remind people how important our local police are. It sounds like you need a more strict reminder.

I don't need a road closed to remind me of how important law enforcement is, bruh. Closing a road does nothing to make me think of his sacrifice to our community.

Leave it alone, troop.
get back in formation.
get back in formation.

I read with an open mind.
It’s a minor inconvenience to the lives of those fortunate to still be alive. If that’s what the family wants, they should be able to get it.

But now I see this isn’t about having an open-minded discussion, it’s about you being pissy because you had to take a detour.
Maybe the procession and road closure isn’t about you or your feelings.

You can move to where there is no law enforcement.
So, portland or minneapolis

Actually, I was home by 2:30 yesterday and I experienced no road closures. The procession did not affect my commute one bit. I’m speaking on behalf of those who did. I can have a discussion without having been affected.

(1) Did the family ask for it or did law enforcement tell the city they were doing it?
(2) What circumstances allows a family to ask for road closures? What if their family member was killed in the military? What if their family member was a DOTD worker killed on the side of the road? What if their family was a school teacher? Does this only apply to LEO?
And for the record, I do feel for the family. I’m asking if this should be a continued practice for every LEO killed?

In south Alabama (at least around Enterprise, where I lived) in the 1970's pretty much everyone pulled over, got out and placed their hand (or hat) over their hearts. Not sure when that stopped being SOP.

I thank NT for his service and sacrifice. To the family, I say thank you.
I was going to discuss this topic with you but seeing as you can't type the man's name, I changed my mind.
frick you and I hope you missed your gynecology appointment yesterday.

Absolutely. It's a small inconvenience to honor and pay tribute to what real sacrifice looks like.

This is great. And I agree, it’s nice. We always pulled over growing up but BR population was nowhere near where it is now. It’s hard for larger cities to stop but awesome when they do.
But there’s a huge difference between motorists CHOOSING to stop (and motorists being told to stop by police while rolling) vs closing a road and not allowing traffic to flow on that road u til the procession passes.

Thank you for being an adult and having a civil conversation. I don’t want this post to be about the man. I want it to be about the practice of closing streets for processions of LEO.

NO.
Next question?

I’m sure people who were impacted by this can speak on it themselves.

Who knows?

This could have something to do with the LEO being an employee of the city.
