Yeah, and in the 'golden days' of the 70s and 80s, LSU essentially was an open admissions college-- if you graduated from high school in Louisiana, you could get in.
And it was CHEAP. Tuition and fees were subsidized 75% by the state, students were only paying 25% of the actual cost. Dorms and food plans were cheap as well; probably half the men's dorm capacity was not air-conditioned.

He's got two kids in college and one in high school. One daughter is a student at Ole Miss, one daughter plays volleyball at USC and his son will play QB somewhere in college. He doesn't have to raise kids if he goes anywhere.

Son visited 3 years ago. When we drove onto campus he said we can turn around and go home now. He went to Tech and loves it.
I’m going to have to go back during the week with my daughter to see how it really is. We went for an official tour over the summer, and it didn’t seem bad at all.

Diversity should be achieved by encouraging applicants of all types to reach high standards. Lowering the standards to achieve diversity never works for anyone.

Louisiana State University's student body is approximately 67% White, 12% African American, 6% Hispanic/Latino, and 2% Asian, with the remaining 13% comprising other underrepresented groups, including international students. The majority of students are from Louisiana, but there is also a significant number of out-of-state and international students.

I’m not sure what it used to be like but it is very ghetto now

I’ve seen all the videos and followed the threads here. A&M was my first game of the year and I didn’t see anything bad but I was only on campus for about an hour and a half before going into the stadium.
Anyone who has been to all/most games this years have any thoughts on this? Did I just get “lucky”? Did the weather keep them away?

But I guess it was inevitable after Gardere turned into a hell hole.
Yep, the Gardere thing was sad to see.
Stayed in Gardere in 1983-84 on E. Wadsworth. Brand new doubles and 4-plexes, overwhelmingly students. New retail places opening along Gardere and Burbank to cater to them (gas stations, fast food, pizza, convenience stores, liquor stores, etc.) Could take a walk in the evenings and see cows and rabbits. It was like that still when I graduated in 1986 and when i visited buddies there in 1987.
Passed by my best friend's little brother's place on Ned in 1991 after an LSU game. It had deteriorated badly just in those 5 years. Now it really is a mess.

No, he was able to call a spade a spade. He wasn't going to live in Detroit south.

My campus experience sounds like Good Will Hunting compared to today’s. I remember sitting on one of those cold pebble/concrete benches with Dr. Harned my senior year, smoking pipes. And not crack. Talking theology. I didn’t have a tweed jacket either elbow patches. But may as well have.

Are those numbers pre-Tate?
In spring of 2025 for undergraduates blacks made up almost 21% with whites making up 57%. For same semester Blacks made up 19% of total enrollment including HS duel credit students, undergraduates, and graduate/professional levels.
This was after a record class of blacks making up around 27% of the 2024 fall freshman class.
Past few years LSU pushes out each fall’s freshman demographics by the end of September with a focus on race, but so far nothing has been pushed out on the fall 2025 freshman which has seemed to be a higher percentage than the 2024 fall freshman class for those who have been on campus.
LSU like most schools has multiple reports that can basically look at same items with slight variations. Sometimes HS duel enrollment is included, sometimes online is included, and sometimes its undergraduates or graduates or both. For freshman numbers a report can focus on first time freshman only or can include first time along with returning or continuing freshman without enough hours to be classified as sophomores.
But just using LSU’s enrollment at a glance table the last time I saw blacks at 13% was spring of 2021.
Spring 2021 to Spring 2025
Spring of 2021 blacks made up 13.7% (4,120) and Hispanics 7.3% (2,183).
Spring 2025 blacks made up 19% (6,609), and hispanics made up 9.5% (3,315).
**These were based on for enrollment that included HS duel credit, undergraduate, & graduate/professional**
Increase of 2,489 blacks, and an increase of 1,132 hispanics.
Whites at 19,712 in spring 2021 and at 19,762 in 2025 for net gain of 50.

I came here to argue this but after thinking it through, you're probably right.

Campus is a beautiful oasis
Just off campus is not great
Was there Saturday and it was full of HS kids and families touring campus
Cranky old white guys just like Livingston parish here

I guess you missed the earlier shootings on campus in the season, and LSU having to shut off areas as well as bring in extra help to monitor the campus for the game you just attended. I think the state was also going to push some state troopers to help out for the A&M game as well.
Your sense of superiority is based on LSU, BR, and the state having to react to how ghetto the game day at LSU was becoming.
But go ahead and feel better about yourself…
