Dont let anyone tell you that they sell these cars brand new for a couple thousand dollars in Africa Their pickups being notorious for surviving 500 mile treks across rivers and rocks in the Congo with thousands of pounds on them There aint a single car that is actually worth more than a few thousand dollars. You may pay to pretend it is.
How much to ship a vehicle from Africa?

I really like this vehicle, but they are so expensive. Even the 2017-2018 older model with low mileage (30-40K) runs between $30-40K.
What model? I bought a new highlander XLE in 2018 for $35K plus TTL I think. Love it.

It's worth it. Your import tariffs may not be.

Get a 4Runner
We have a 4Runner and I hope it holds up well but the Jeep Grand Cherokee we had drove better.

If you don't drive a ton and love the car, look into getting a lease.
Check out leasehacker.com and read up on the forum. I have a decked out highlander 3 year lease all in for 450 /mo and we love it

This. Toyotas have such a good residual value that the leases can be quite reasonable. Of course this won't work if you plan to put a lot of miles on the vehicle.
But if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time it's hard to beat a Toyota for value. They rarely break down and if they do parts are both cheap and readily available and almost any idiot with a wrench can work on them.

Honestly, for that money look into the KIA Telluride or Hyundai Palisade. That range you can get brand new, and both those vehicles have great warranties. Hyundai is 5 year bumper to bumper, I think 10 year power train? Along with other warranties too.

Not with the new Lincoln Aviator only about $10k more.

Best of luck finding one near you that won't be fully decked out. Kia can't make them fast enough to meet demand, and they already ramped up production from a planned 60,000 to 100,000 at their plant in West Point, GA.
Kia Tellurides Are Almost Impossible To Find
From the article published on July 1st:

As of this writing, national inventory listings show over 4,000 vehicles in stock for the Palisade but barely 700 for the Telluride.

Is the Toyota Highlander worth the price?
go w/ the platinum model w/ the panaromic sunroof.
we almost bought a new one but then the wife decided they looked like every other mid-size SUV on the road and didn't want to spend 40k on a car that everyone else in the universe had.

I bought the wife a 2019 SE model with captains chairs and she loves it.

Viable option, but at the cost of resale and reliability compared to Toyota. Money saved might be worth it however.

It will outlast whatever you try to save a few bucks buying.

Get it used with kinda high mileage and it's absolutely worth it
We picked up a 2016 Limited Highlander in 2019 with 58k miles for I think $22k. It'll last us a long, long time.
