I'm the same way. Hate getting home and not having a day to meal prep, clean, mow, etc

I always give myself a buffer day.

With young kids I've learned quickly to plan travel days on Saturdays. Sunday is a day of rest before jumping back into the thunderdome.

Traveling can certainly keep your mind off any tasks needed the following Monday, right?

So, you can't imagine going into work after a 5 hour drive?

Sure - by being the most unbearable part of the trip. Especially if you have kids and littles.
The day off is just so you can move past the hell you just went through without dragging it with you to a place that does not care.

Last vacation was 10 day trip to Alaska. Return flight landed in Dallas at 8:30 pm. By 9:15 was pulling out of long term parking. Arrived home in Bossier around 12:50 am. In bed asleep by 1:30 am, alarm goes off at 7 am and sitting at my desk 8 am.
Yeah, next time I’m taking an extra day off.

I always feel like I need 2-3 days after a big Holiday or long Vacation.
2-3 days just to rest my mind chill out get focused and motivated again.

Over a 30+ year career, I never did manage to figure this out…I traveled out of town every holiday and always crashed in at 8 PM the night before I had to work bright and early the next morning. Not one year did I ever use all of my PTO, either. I always dreaded the Monday after a holiday, because all of the executives were always all wound up and ready to get everyone back to work
. I could have very easily taken the day following every holiday off and saved countless hours of misery!

If you say so. Not sure how relaxing it will be though.

There was a time I didn’t mind that long of a drive. These days, if I can fly I will if it’s over a 4 hour drive. But agreed it’s good to have the following day off after a trip.

Better to keep busy/extra day at resort vs dealing with “Sunday scaries”
