There was money to subsidize the oyster loss in the 3billion. They were getting paid if it was installed.

Landy couldn't hand out the work to his buddies since the scope was already approved. Guessing his construction buddies pressured him into scraping the project so their competition couldn't make money.

This is why you can’t have nice things in the state.

This diversion would have provided some much needed sediment as well as revitalized that area of the marsh with fresh water. (Lake Cataouatche)

These idiots will be complaining about saltwater intrusion in their drinking pipes soon enough.

Yep - once the funding was approved then the project was handed over to CPRA and they solicited bids and awarded all of the contracts. GC and all of the subs and suppliers were in place when Landry took over.

Nungesser talked about killing the dolphins in his statement last week. I was not aware that the entirety of the world dolphin species was located in Barataria Bay and they they would be unable to swim south to saltier water.

No one wants that - however, look at the east side of the river at Mardi Gras pass and Neptune pass. shite happened on its own - and it is diverting sediment and creating land mass on the east side. God forbid that happens to the west side. I would think a better alternative would be a controlled diversion with a Hwy 23 bridge going over it. Probably not very likely, but I really don't know. There is too much industry and too many communities south of Alliance that need to be protected. Something like this project would have somewhat provided that protection.

Neither of those two were on the ballot

One of them is dead

They were terrible governors

Landry is also terrible

In 1905 the US Corp of engineers really started the saline problem when it closed off the entrance to bayou Lafourch at Donaldsonville. Within 5 year the salt water intrusion shut down the sugar mill in raceland.

In the 1950's, the corp pushed the nationwide need to prevent soil erosion. In 10 years time the sediment level in the Mississippi fell by 35%.

The corps needs to be responsible for salt water intrusion and loss of wetlands

Personally; time to boycott LA Oysters, specifically those farmed in Terrebonne Bay.
WTF Terrebonne Bay got to do with this?! This diversion would have ZERO impact on anything Terrebonne EVER.

You gotta mean Barataria Bay?

That slimy bastard should have went down after BP spill. The shite he wanted to be built to protect lower plaquemines was laughable at best. And the bigger one wouldn’t work. Why? Take a guess, it needed a freshwater diversion.

Ah, dang. My bad. Terrebonne Bay oysters back on the menu.

Meant Barataria. At least the LA Oyster Task Force gives a list of companies to avoid.

I'm aware of that.

But if you think "no tax dollars" have been spent (or would have been spent) to oversee this now failure of a project, then I can't help you. If you think this would have been done without "public servant input" (i.e., impeding progress, e.g., taxpayer funding), then you live in a Louisiana echo chamber.

How many hundreds of millions have been spent to get to this point? The one where the people "in charge" have just now announced to you all that they quit?

If you're a chud who thought it would have gone off without a hitch and without any expense to the taxpayer (or even been completed at all), then please, for the love of God, don't move to Mississippi with your awful instincts regarding your political leanings. This was not a private industry-only endeavor, no matter where the initial funding came from: your government oversaw it to this point of failure.

Anyone with any objective bird's eye view of this whole thing knew from the get-go that it was going to be a farce, and guess what?

It was.

Honestly surprised some of the Terrebonne companies don't have leases that way considering how much land they actually lease and/or own.

I did a triple check of that list posted before the first reply just to make sure I wasn't talking out my arse. Lol
