it is ignorance, but deep down they know. They know they are the problem and that if things get more expensive they would be able to live on their gubbment check.
What really boggles my mind is how the educated black people still take up for the degenerates. it really is crazy and enabling.

what do north br residents think they are losing if the zoo moves?
You could also ask what do the residents of southern baton rouge think they are gaining?
Seems to me that moving a zoo would cost in the millions of dollars range. If baton rouge were a perfect city with no other issues and a surplus to spend....sure go for it as an improvement, but in the current status, why waste money on moving it. That's almost as bad as Nola wasting millions on statues that weren't broken or harming anyone... Why can't these cities figure out how to budget and spend money on fixing actual issues rather then starting new projects.

The big part I struggle with is if they had kept up with this zoo and intended to invest the kind of money a new zoo would costs then would people use the current zoo?
Seems the big part you struggle with is English.

Dude just called I-110 a major thoroughfare. It should be renamed "the safe way to get to the airport"

The independent study found that it would cost about the same to renovate it in its current location than to move it. It projected much higher revenue in another location. Also, renovating in the current location is projected to take 15 yrs vs. 5 yrs to move it.

If they get enough private donations to move the zoo without taxpayer's helping; I would support the move.

In other words it needs to be free. And then it will decline and paying customers will stop going.

I don't often agree with your math, but you are spot on about this. Thanks for the information.

I didn't believe that study when I read it originally and don't believe it now that the site is to be the Fairgrounds.

Yeah it's one of our beloved studies. Who knows how accurate it is but I don't have any better information to share on the subject.

If that was the standard, there would be no parks/zoos ever built anywhere. A zoo at least has the ability to generate its own revenues to cover some of its costs.

The distance from I-10 to the Fairgrounds is about the same as the distance from I-110 to the current zoo.
Ok, that's true enough.
But how many people pass highland rd. exit on I-10 vs going I-110.
What do you pass on your way to the zoo on hwy 19. A gas station.
What do you pass on your way to the fairgrounds? Resturants, grocery stores, gas stations, businesses, more gas stations, more restaurants.
I know many people that would go to the zoo if it where located somewhere else.

The move the zoo opposition had their own plans which were cheaper to stay put.
Biased? Perhaps, but the BREC study doesn't add up.

The metro area population is definitely growing in the other direction from the zoo.

No question which is the more high profile, it's the Fairgrounds.

why are the NBR residents so against the move? AS the poster mention above, people are not stopping to eat or do anything else anywhere near the current location. There is noting but a slum surrounding the zoo in its current location. I'm not saying the fairgrounds is the right answer, but anything is better than its current location

I don't think the Louisiana legislature should get involved in a local park.
Exactly. Why should a representative from Monroe or Shreveport have any input on where the Baton Rouge Zoo is located. That's just stupid. Our esteemed representatives should be balancing the state budget instead of worrying about where the giraffes will be located.

Location of the current zoo prevents many from wanting to bring their family there. Now as a kid, i used to love that zoo, and spent a few summers going to zoo camp there. Going there now, it's in such poor shape. So i think location is a part of it, but the condition is really why people aren't showing up.
And FWIW, i never felt unsafe at the zoo. Now the drive to the zoo, you go through some sketchy areas.
I would actually prefer the zoo to move closer to my house and get an overhaul.
