How do these layoffs affect the office real estate market. So many large towers in downtowns across the US and so many vacancies.

And yet it seems new buildings go up instead of places using vacant space, destroying more land.

They wouldn’t be if millions of white collar jobs are lost. You do realize this, yes?

We're talking about a lot of demand over a lot of positions and not all of those being replaced are going to go into blue collar jobs.

People making white collar money hire blue collar workers at higher pay rates. This isn’t hard.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the moltbook stuff happened right at the same time people are starting to look at AI and say, "what does this really buy us?"

But yes, skynet, iRobot, UBI, blah blah blah...

Technology has ALWAYS eliminated some jobs and created far better ones....AI will not be any different. There is, as there always is, some lag time for certain, and that may or may not prove to be painfully different for many or even all employees....but 50 years from now when whatever most people do today are spoken of like typewriter repairmen are spoken of today no one will lament their transition from their current gig to their future gig.

My wife and I are in the process of building our retirement home on the lake. We bought a smaller lot in an area that was closer to doctors and hospitals because driving to doctors appointments winds up putting an awful lot of retired folks into nursing homes. The advent of self-driving vehicles is very interesting. The AI involved makes them possible. We are seriously talking about finishing this house, putting it on the market and finding a bigger lot, further from town and more in line with our lifestyle, all because driving is most likely going to be an archaic skill in 10 or so years. Imagine a world where you daily commute is not a contact survival sport but is instead a relaxing hour or so of reading, napping, watching your favorite TV show on your onboard monitor....all while being whisked along in a vehicle without the frailties of human operators. Seriously, just that alone is worth the price of admission.

I can't wait to get on an airplane and there not be a human being or even a seat in the cockpit. Right winged hero Charlie Kirk once said, to vast approval amongst his followers, "If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, boy, I hope he’s qualified'. Apparently qualification to fly an airplane is reliant on skin color...who knew. But Imagine a world where the brilliant minded like Charlie Kirk can get on a plane and never suffer from fear that the pilot's skin is too dark to be qualified. That is a very liberating thought....I personally never knew that skin color was a qualification for piloting an airplane and just assumed it was more about eye / hand coordination and experience but I was wrong. A computer has no skin so poor old Charlie and folks like him won't have ANY fear at all. Thats freedom baby!

I believe it. I hear the same from friends who work at Coke and Delta. They are all looking for other jobs.

I hear this and read this a lot, but what if we run out of body parts?

The industrial revolution allowed man to work with his hands instead of his backs. The digital revolution allowed man to work with his brain instead of his hands.

What's next?
