much would you estimate you spend on "unnecessary" shite every year?
My daughter was a HS cheerleader. I don’t want to count how much I’ve burned. Thank god she decided she didn’t want to do it any longer.
As for her ring, the school she attends prioritizes legacies and its tradition that the mother hand down her ring. My daughter is the first to attend but is steadfast that if she lives here, and has a girl, she will attend her school. That made the ring purchase easier to swallow.

That’s pretty great, actually.

don't care what anyone says, all of this travel ball, cheer, dance, equestrian, etc. BS is a major scam meant to separate people from their money by trying to shame parents into thinking that if they don't fork it over they're being cruel to their kids and depriving them of childhood memories

I think we spent like $250 for our daughters.

Last year she decided against it because it did nothing for her future. It was a proud moment. She wants to go to law school, so she leaned into debate and a few other things, and all in total, the cost is about the same, lol.
At least she feels like she’s getting more out of her new endeavors.

The patches are where the money is at.
Also realize its all custom --the trim and lettering etc.
Thats why they take 4-6 weeks

what are all of these patches? the only patches we had were for all-district, city, or state, no one at my school paid for any of that

I understand senior pictures are way worse.
We used the resort photographer during our summer vacation before Senior year. No charge for photographer and paid per picture for digital. Saved an incredible amount of money and had much better background. Also got family pics at the same time.

I mean you get a lot of use out of it, so it's worth the cost. I'm 40 and I still rock mine regularly. Perfect segway to get to talk about my athletic accolades.
Telling anybody who will listen about your 4 touchdowns in one game when you were a teenager playing at Polk High Mr. Bundy.

At least this has some meaning to it. I think tradition is important.

and then have a side hustle taking gender reveal party photos.
There are enough of these damn parties that someone could have a gig every weekend.

My letter jacket was originally bought for my older sisters and I got it when I was a freshman. Their patches were taken off and mine were added.
I was 4-year varsity for two different sports, so it was stacked on both sides. I only wore it occasionally though.
My younger sister either got her own or never had one. I don’t think my folks had mine undone.

just how small of a baw are you?

Now? 6-1 200. In high school, 6-1 165.
A men’s medium fit perfectly fine, which is what the jacket was. My parents lucked out that my sister didn’t want the feminine jacket with the fake hoodie thing on the back, so they were able to repurpose it for me.

Not a thing in my area. Even at regional and state games/competitions you rarely see kids wearing them. We offered to buy our sophomore a jacket and she's not interested. Just keeps her letters and bars on a bulletin board with her medals. Same with class rings, most of her friends don't have one and she doesn't want one.
