Technically he's not wrong, as scalpers have willing buyers at all times.

Ok, so by definition ticket master and live nation shouldn't have become one.

That's a monopoly.

Someone needs to write to Congress about this.

On one hand he’s not wrong, 3rd party tickets go for insane prices, but only for maybe the 1% of musicians touring. Getting a FV ticket for Swift or Wallen is like winning the lottery.

On the other hand. LiveNation needs to be hit with an antitrust lawsuit though.

How many votes would it take to admit that this monopoly should've never been allowed. And split the two.

“Music has been under-appreciated,” he said. “In sports, I joke it’s like a badge of honor to spend 70 grand for a Knicks courtside [seat]. They beat me up if we charge $800 for Beyoncé.”

that's how the market works.

if enough people want to pay $70k for Knicks tickets, then you can ask that much and get it.

if people bitch about $800 for Beyonce, then you're pretty much at the limit you'll get for them.

Referencing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour, Rapino pointed out that she had “62 transport trucks” along with her. “That’s a Super Bowl she’s putting on every night. 10 years ago, there might’ve been 10 trucks.”

If Beyoncé wants to charge $1500/ticket to fund her 62 truck show, then go ahead. If people want to pay it, great. Have fun. If they don’t, then she should go back to a 10 truck show.

But this Live Nation frick wants EVERY band to charge more so that HE can make money. He’s just a leech.

They charge too much already and then rig the system so scalpers have access to the best tickets.

It's probably true that the market-clearing price is even higher than what we see for major concerts.

Same thing with college, at least for the top schools. The market-clearing tuition rate is obviously much higher than the numbers people are actually paying.

I’d say a pretty significant amount of professional sports tickets are owned and/or purchased by corporations and companies so they can afford it, that is absolutely not the case for concert tickets that shite comes out of people’s personal accounts

What a fricking idiot statement from somebody who seems like a smart guy given his net worth

Geez. At this point, I think the only thing I'd pay big money for would be close up rows at a Sumo wrestling championship in Japan. I don't have much sports or entertainment related things left on my bucket list.

Luckily, there just about isn't worth a damned thing worth seeing anymore if you're not into tiresome dance pop.

That's not what's happening though. Those tickets go for thousands resale.

He's saying they can charge a premium and cut out the middle man if they really wanted to.

i heard that was a talking point for the Taylor Swift Eras tour, that she tries to make every show unique in its own way...

what this guy is trying to say is that the price of tickets correlates to the demand for them... we enjoy paying high prices for tickets because that means it's a (game, event, concert) people want to see. if we're not paying high prices, then it's something different

At the time, concerts were subsidized to sell albums; now streaming is subsidized to sell concert tickets.

Today you spend under $20 a month for a practically unlimited playlist I averaged more than $20 a WEEK on CDs in college over 35 years ago and that isn't adjusted for inflation. Squeeze the balloon in one place and it pops out in another.
