According to the description this one includes local taxes and comes up with a total tax burden ranking.

quote:

One simple ratio known as the “tax burden” helps cut through the confusion. Not to be confused with tax rates, which vary widely based on an individual’s particular circumstances, tax burden measures the exact proportion of total personal income that residents pay toward state and local taxes. And it isn’t uniform across the U.S., either.

and that is exactly why nothing will ever change. its an impossible quagmire to correct.

LA is as doomed to their plight in a manner similar to the middle east. it'll be that way for thousands of years......

I could have a personal budget of $29 billion, and that would be an indication of extreme irresponsibility, not wealth.

I’d be a couple billion in debt after a month.

Well besides that whole property tax thing, but you guys get to see where your tax dollars get reinvested. It sucks,
I wish we were more like that.

I don't live in Louisiana and no longer live in Texas.

I'd love to compare taxes and fees in EBR Parish with comparable US counties.

I'd bet WR wouldn't be much lower than other Southern counties, in fact I'd bet we'd be higher than many.

When you see these state figures, you have all the poor parishes diluting what the larger parishes pay.

Remember: Louisiana centralizes more of its government and funding at the state level than any other state. A huge chunk of that budget goes to local schools and their employee pensions. Everything in the state is run from, and funded from, Baton Rouge rather than relying on local county taxes.

If you were to add up the combined state and local government budgets for those two states, Georgia would dwarf Louisiana because they tax and spend FAR more at the municipal and county level.

This bears repeating time and again until y'all understand it. Huey P can be blamed for this.

Texas allows high property taxes which means the money can stay closer to the community. The community can decide how to spend it. Louisiana, we send all our money to BR and they tell us how to spend it.

Louisiana is the original welfare state. We have almost as many state employees as Pennsylvania. Let that sink in.

Louisiana also incarcerates more of its citizens than any other state in the Union.

43.3% of GA state budget goes to education
28.7% of LA goes to education

GA has better schools, better infrastructure, better job market, and better parks and rec.

So, you either live in a landfill or a swamp with no road access.

I paid property tax on a dilapidated, 900sqft house on a 3K sqft lot in a bad section of Crowley, La and it was more than double that.
