Where is OLOL getting all this money from to do this and build a new cancer center from scratch kicking Mary Bird out of bed in the process?
Surely it's not their patient population

This is great! I will remember this when I get a $50 bill for Tylenol. I was just thinking LSU athletics really needs tens of millions more dollars.

I'm hearing more announcements are in the pipeline too regarding changes being made to LSU's priorities. More focus on research, tech, coast, and engineering

So far I was completely wrong about him and I’m happy for it. I like reminders of how dumb I am.

As it should be! Also with the focus on athletics and that brings a higher profile to your school with more national applicants. You can be more selective in who you take which will only increase LSU talent's pool. I"m excited about the future for my alma mater

I hate that you’re probably right

So I've actually had this debate with my friends who work at LSU. Apparently the national trend for public institutions is to be less selective and use some of the additional funds to provide support to the students predicted to possibly struggle.
The total number of college aged students is predicted to rapidly decline over the next decade.

Let me guess....this is for pediatric cancer research!

So, put as many students on the hook for thousands of dollars in student loans knowing full well they'll either never graduate or never find a lucrative job to pay back the crippling debt.

They would say test results and HS transcripts are limited predictors of success but Yeah, Pretty Much

So they just found a legal way to do what they were doing before?

That's actually incredible for LSU!
IIRC, Pennington's donation in the 1980s of $150 million or so was the largest any university had gotten from a single private donation the time. Obviously that has been far surpassed by now by the big research institutions.

Good to see these universities are really focused on the students and totally not interested in lining their own pockets at the expense of ruining the financial well being of their young people

With Prof's like Mann, it's hard to justify investing into academics.
Good for the one's that deserve this.
