Politicians do the same thing. They talk incessantly about war and gun violence while we pay jacked up prices for gas and groceries.

Completely wrong, Costco does not have "loss leader" items like eggs and milk. They don't sell that shite at a loss. You are thinking about everyday stores like Kroger and Wal-Mart. You can easily find stuff there under cost and much cheaper than at Costco.
However Costco marks everything up 15%, so the big profit margin items you find at Wal-Mart are much cheaper at Costco. Almost all their profit comes from membership fees, not selling you items. The markup on items are just to cover their business expenses. If their purchase price for that item goes down, the actually lower the price.

It may work like magic. But don’t be fooled!

Wow. What an incredible deduction for you to figure out that stores use loss leaders to bring customers in to buy their higher profit items. Perhaps you missed that Sam Walton built Walmart off the same premise 60 years ago.
Before that the Chevorlet Corvette was a loss leader. They originally expected to lose money but they knew its existence would drive men to showrooms where they would then buy cars that were profitable.

A loss leader does not have to be sold at a loss. It is part of the Costco strategy to get folks in for their regular staple purchases and then shop the middle. They come in and get their milk and TP then buy some of the decent priced but still more profitable items in the middle.

Why all the Costco hate lately?

This annoys me with them also. Every time I ask someone where something is nobody knows. They could at least put list of item types down the aisles like normal grocery stores do.

If you think you're going to trick me into coming into this thread to talk shite about Costco, you have failed.

Well sure, they have to offer these things, but there is minimal markup on ALL items in the store. Here is basically the markup of items in their store.
quote:
Over the last five years, membership fees made up 98% of Costco's net income. In other words, Costco isn't really trying to make money by selling goods. They markup products just enough to cover their meager overhead. The real profit center is membership fees. The low prices are a way to encourage customer loyalty, as seen in their 91% U.S. renewal rate.

If you cannot remember their floorplan by the second time you go I have a recommendation.
It ia a warehouse store. It is not Cartier. It is not meant to be full service. Sorry your upset about that.

lol Touché. I don’t go there very often. Just would be nice to have employees who are a lil more helpful is all. If you’re working at a store you’d think knowing the area of where something is would be basic knowledge. Publix employees can look up an item in their phone and tell you where it is and how much is in stock. Don’t see why Costco couldn’t do something similar.

A place like Fresh Market is very easy to be quick with groceries, I'm aware that it's more expensive than big box stores like Wal-Mart.

Ha ha, same. Figured this was another January 6th "insurrection" thread.
And FWIW, y'all pay attention to the stories buried deep in the news while this charade is going on.

Well, in all honesty, that's pretty much all food stores. The local Rouses and Winn-Dixie move their inventory around a few times a year just to keep people searching, and good luck finding someone there to help find stuff.
My biggest gripe with Costco is how they introduce a product, carry it for a while and suddenly it disappears, sometimes for good but often just for a few weeks or months only to return.

I've never once done that.
