At first I thought Redford’s daughter was the one killed. Just her bf? The death of his daughter’s bf haunted him forty years?
Looks like they dated for 3 years and were planning to get married, so Redford thought of him already as his son-in-law.

After Wells was shot in 1983, Smika was arrested and then released without charges being filed. He later disappeared and hasn't been seen since 1986.
Hopefully he hasnt been seen since 1986 because Redford did what any good father would do. Bury that bastard somewhere remote and deep.

“ Listen, I don't mean to be a sore loser, but when it's done, if I'm dead, kill him.”

Pre-computers, it was a lot easier to disappear/hide.

Was RR some sort of gangster or something?

Was RR some sort of gangster or something?Never heard anything like that about him.
one day he came into my dad’s office, shut the door, and sat down in front of his desk
he said, “you know, i like you, and i trust you, so i’m only going to tell you this in strict confidence…but if there’s ever any man you want out of your way, and i mean permanently, all you have to do is write his name on a piece of paper, stick it in an envelope with a hundred dollar bill, and hand it to me without saying a word, and i’ll take care of him for you”
as he rose from the chair to leave, he smiled at my dad and said, “and if i dont like the guy on the piece of paper, i’ll give you back the hundred dollars”

Any chance Redford just had the guy killed?
That was always my assumption.

Was a big thing in Boulder when I lived there in the 90s. Distinctive looking guy too. Just vanished.

A guy in Shreveport stole 300-400k from employer and it was a slam dunk case against him.
He went through arraignment and all that and not so quietly sold everything he owned. House, boat, truck everything. Reason being attorneys fees.
Couple days before the trial he bolted. They know he is Mexico, reward and all that, can’t find him. Been 5 years.
