Anyone have any idea where she and I are likely to find street musicians?
You’ll probably get better info from the Travel Board.

I live in NOLA, but haven’t been down to the FQ in a while. Buskers were all over the place last time I was there. MG day two years ago, a “dj” set up his truck on a Royal St. corner near the Omni. Turned the volume up to eleven. He was there for at least several hours. We were at a friend’s house party, and you could not avoid the sound. If they are finally enforcing some of the noise ordinances, I say “About frickin’ time.”

Royal and St. Ann in front of Rouses was always a good spot but I'm not sure if that intersection is closed off from the construction right now. Ms. Doreen (the famous clarinet player) usually plays with a group there.

ETA: For the parades using the long route, Magazine is by far the best place to watch.

Not anymore. Magazine has become completely over crowded. Thoth Sunday on magazine has jumped the shark.

ETA: Napoleon is my favorite spot. More room to spread out than magazine, but still towards the front of the route and less of a pain than St. Charles.

Is that the spot where Tuba Skinny sets up when they play in the Quarter?

I've only ever been with my family the week before but my wife is really wanting to go back this year the weekend of through fat Tuesday. I just don't know how much more of a cluster it's going to be

It’s a completely different animal. I’d 100% be as close to magazine and Napoleon if you aren’t well versed. That or l’d be in a grandstand or at a hotel with balcony access.

As it is, I’ve done Mardi Gras a thousand times, and I won’t mess with the crowds. I need a grand stand if I’m going on the weekend of. I want a bathroom, a side that isn’t going to be inundated by drunk and rowdy dummies, and food and drink.

There are several options, but space is limited, and it’s not going to be cheap for the better experiences.

Ms. Doreen is her hero.....would love to find where she was playing, if she still does so on the street....

Thanks to everyone....looking forward to experiencing New Orleans with my daughter..been a bunch with the wife, a few times with my son, neither of who are really music fans, and a bunch of times with friends and I am really looking forward to it with my daughter....

Back in the day I used to catch it at Lee Circle. Would borrow my parents RV and park it under the bridge. Put a random Texas license plate on it. Get a ticket i would never pay and have it there for the Mardi gras weekend. One year we paid Tivoli place to park it there. Nothing was better as a 20-22 year old (3 years i went without parents) then having a nightly rv party. One night we drak with Norm Robinson. Another night we had midgets dancing in the roof and one fell off.
We had copious amounts of liquor and.... stuff.
But yeah the area was getting super trashy then. But at the same time there was a community of RVers who looked out for each other. Like one got us gas when I ran the generator so long I couldn't start the engine.

Now I like to catch the parades on Or near Napoleon or magazine.

Are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday still crazy or are Friday and Saturday the worst?

This weekend is chill and good fun.

Starting Thursday, shite gets wild, and doesn’t stop until it’s over.

So how much crazier/more packed are say Thoth, Bacchus, Orpheus, Zulu, and Rex compared to Muses, Babylon, Nyx (RIP), Morpheus?

Babylon, Nyx (RIP), Morpheus

Not that packed.

Toth and Orpheus are not insane.

The rest are insane.

If they are still available, get balcony access at the Blake.

It’s not cheap, but it’s catered, premium bar, bathrooms, a table to get away from the craziness, and you’re in a balcony when outside.

Thoth will be the most crowded of the parades you're listing. Morpheus will probably be the least if you catch it later down the route.

I personally like to watch Bacchus on Julia St.

Can't comment on Orpheus, Zulu, and Rex. I was there in 2020 for them and didn't find St. Charles crowded in the Louisiana Ave Area.

You realize this one rolls very early on Mardi Gras day. Couple of the drivers for a company I worked for were on the "coconut crew" for Zulu and I have two custom, named coconuts from 82 & 84 around here somewhere.

Yeah i saw it starts at 8 am, was hoping maybe that would keep turnout reasonable from the late night revelers Monday night

Where is the line on St Charles where it turns from family friendly to ghetto?

I would say 1985.

Before that was all family.

You really need to know what you’re doing to catch that parade in the streets and not from a grandstand or balcony.

No. It will be crowded, but not muses/bacchus/zulu crowded.

One more question, what's the better location. There is one home just on the right side of Jackson and another at Jefferson and magnolia. The Jackson one is closer/walking distance to the routes (about half a mile compared to a tick over a mile) but I'm guessing the other is a much better area?

Nothing beyond St. Charles and Napoleon is family friendly anymore. Starting there, you have fraternities, then high schoolers, then back to families for a brief time in the Garden District, then ghetto at Jackson Avenue.
