Consider human nature. Speaking broadly-Marriage serves the nature of women. It provides her security and status improvement . It conflicts with the nature of man. It denies him sexual freedom and turns the fruits of his labor over to his wife. So a man has to make an appeal to his better angels and deny his dominant biological urges in a way that is hard for a woman to understand.
If one has an awesome marriage I would think these questions of nature are beside the point and both benefit. But if one’s wife is a selfish troll, the man can basically become an indentured servant of sorts. His must deny his nature, serve her nature , and to what end?
Bottom line - marry well . I make 25 years this month.

Currently reading the book Sapiens. The first people were not in monogamous relationships. Everyone slept with everyone. When a woman had a child, each man in the village was responsible for raising each child as if it was his child. Instead of having one partner to raise a child, a woman had many. Having only one partner would benefit a woman less in raising children. To say it is human nature for only a man to want to sleep around isn’t true, women have benefited from whoring around since the beginning of time too.

Marriage is a construct of the patriarchy to keep women subjugated.
And now that lesbians can marry, it's double the sujugation!!!!

Marriage: Who benefits more?
1) The caterer
2) The band you hire for the reception
3) The person who sells the bride the overpriced wedding dress
4) The people who charge ridiculous amounts for the reception hall.
5) The photographer who takes 100000 pics using every possible permutation to take a pic (ok..now lets get a shot of the cousins of the brothers of the groom, etc)

We already have this in 2019, except a lot of the people exhibiting this behavior only care about the making children part and totally ignore the providing and raising part.
That worked when everyone worked together to survive and every waking moment was trying to survive.

There's a passage in that book that's going to really make you think twice about having kids.
Mind sharing?

As far as between the spouses, it's whichever is more dependent one. I don't know if I could say it swings harder toward females or males.
