Her JOB is to play tennis.
Doing an interview is not "part of her f*cking job." If she doesn't do an interview, it doesn't affect her tennis performance.
You may say that the Tennis Federation has forced her into a contractual obligation, but that's ridiculous. She could just show up and say nothing but "No comment." Would they fine her then?
I'd rather she just not give an interview than to show up and give a Belichick-type B.S. interview.

There’s a fine line between being okay with talking about mental health and being a pussy.

Sometimes it's not physiologically possible to just snap out of it.
I agree with your post. It is overused and has become a catch all, like ADHD. Sometimes, it’s just kids being kids. Sometimes, being down or anxious is just part of life but sometimes it’s something else entirely.
Think about the increases we see in suicides across the nation. You have to be mentally ill to get to a point where all you want to do is die. My personal opinion is that a lot of this what we’re seeing is kind of a man created societal situation that humans are maladapted to live in. We evolved over 50,000 years for one type of life style and technology has drastically changed that over the last 30. We’re not built to live behind a computer screen in a dark room 50 hours a week. We’re not built for the information overload that our computers and smartphones give us daily.
Hence, mental illness is often our physiological inability to live in the world we’re in today.

No. She’s a performer. And performers do interviews. That’s her job.

All this krap reminds me of a Peter Sellers interview that he did a couple of months before he died. One thing that hit me was that he said that he lived his life without really knowing who he was. He played characters in films for most of his life and he didn't truly know his real self. I believe that many of actors/actresses have this problem. Same with professional athletes, they get paid to entertain, if they don't do it well they lose their gig. They will do almost anything to remain in the spotlight, look at Tonya Harding and Colin Kapernick. Perhaps Osaka does not have a mental health issue, she just does not want to deal with sports writers diving into all of her business.

I'm not sure the negativity is deserved in her case. She was willing to pay the fine for skipping the press conference but then the media and tennis community blew the whole thing up until she felt best thing was to drop out. Doesn't seem like she asked for sympathy or approval to start with.

Follow the money. The psychiatric industry doesn't want you to read the Stoics or other philosophers, believe in God, or just simply live your life. Do you think they are trying to work themselves out of job?
Nope. There is no money in that. But there is a ton of money in narcotics and ensuring that everyone believes they have mental problems that can't be solved without paying for therapy. Modern Psychology and Psychiatry has purposely created and encouraged the "mental health" crisis that exists today.

OP has a point that people are soft, and doctors have zero issues just throwing drugs at problems.
OP doesn't have a point that stoicism by itself is going to solve real anxiety and depression disorders.

Sports world and the media also really tries to make themselves feel important and essential.
The whole Marshawn Lynch thing was bullshite as well

The problem with the OP is that there are a lot of people in this country who have actual mental problems. Social media and our general more open lifestyles have shown more of it.
For most of history, people "grin it and bear it" until they could not anymore.
People realize now they don't have to be miserable, they don't have to just suck it up... they can try to improve their lives. How in the hell is this a bad thing?

A lot realize they can say that and get away with a lot of shite too.
That's not minimizing mental health, but you have your head in the sand if you don't think that's a pretty big problem.

Wut? It seemed like she tried to take the high road and just peace out. The media, as always, is turning this into a much bigger issue.
I do think interviews are part of the job, although I don’t care much to listen to them. That said, she’s 23 I think? She’s probably been doing this since she was old enough to walk. Tennis stars don’t exactly live their lives like the rest of us. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if she was mentally out of whack.
I suppose you think Jimmy Piersall was just some attention whoring, immature ballplayer?

Yeah people definitely use it as an excuse with no consequence. I've had people break off plans last minute and use the excuse "my wife needs a mental health day." If you want to break off plans last minute just tell me you don't want to hang out. Don't feed me this "mental health" bullshite out of no where.
