Honestly my family gatherings are overdone, jam packed, overstimulating nightmares...hated holidays as a kid. My wife's family has a small less than 10 person lunch, and I fry the turkey outside while sipping bourbon and staring at the land.... it's fricking nirvana

I loved them, but they are both dead in their 70s. It is what it is. My FIL was definitely another father figure to me.
We are late 40s/early 50s. They won't be around forever.
