My 04 Tahoe was the best vehicle I have ever owned.
We had an '06 that ran like a clock... Got rid of it 2019 just because it was over 13 years old... Wish we still had it...

Anything without a bed, 4 wheel drive and a towing capacity for a mid size camper is useless in my world.

In general, BMW (and most German cars) you buy for the joy of driving the profits of the manufacturer higher, Lexus you buy for the joy of ownership.
Full disclosure: if I have a SIXT rental outlet where I travel, I treat myself to the nicest BMW available there. Wonderful motorcars to drive*, but as an owner I’m spoilt by Lexus’ rock-solid reliability.

Ive purchased 4 BMWs in the past 6 years.
No issues other than routine maintenance on all 4. ( one of the current ones has an open recall for a brake caliper issue)
BMW got serious about QC over the past 10 years, and it shows.
That said, I doubt they'll ever be as troublefree as a Lexus, but for me, the tradeoff for additional power and tech is worth it.

Rivian. Idk if they’re overrated or whatever but I don’t like the way they look

I’m happy with my Tundra and the wife’s Subaru Ascent. Thank you very much.

Depends on what you want out of a car. Lexus doesn't make any true driver's cars.
I don’t know about that. I drove my LX 600 to NC and back last week and it is a smooth driving vehicle. Did great in the mountains. Plenty of room and got 19 mpg at 85 mph.

Almost every plaudite you gave the LX is not indicative of a "driver's car". If you had been in an X7 in the mountains, you would have seen a huge difference in handling prowess. The solid rear axle just doesn't allow great handling on-road. Excellent vehicle but doesn't rate as a driver's car in any way shape or form.

None of that says "driver's car". It is an expensive Toyota and Toyota has only made a handful of true driver's cars over the years.

You drove the wrong model - drive a GTS
With the v8, turbo exhaust and lightweight package

Obtuse,
What is your opinion of the Guilia? The wife wants this model for our car over "there".
Quadrifoglio
Everything I have read says it is a driver. Less luxury than the competition, but better experience. I have never driven one. Wondering if you have.

I drove one (not in anger) a couple of years ago. FANTASTIC car, full stop.
The engine has a meaty powerband and loves to rev to the RL and the brakes are excellent. Where it really shines is steering and handling. At least up to 80% it is the best small sedan handling-wise I have ever driven and I have owned every chassis of M3 from the E30 to the F80. The cockpit is driver focused and less tech heavy than the rivals from the German Big 3. All this comes with the huge caveat of it being a statistically unreliable car. I would only own one with a good dealer near me, it also would not be a car I would like to have sitting for long if I am picking up your use case correctly.
Gorgeous car with some warts. The M3 is a safer though less attractive dance partner as is the C63 and if domestic is your flavor the baby Blackwing. Also not sure about the ROW but I think the Quadrifoglio was done in 2024.

It will stay parked just north of Porec (Novigrad), which is about 30 min from Italy. Will be "parked" for 6 months at a time. We do not keep cars more that 50K-70K miles and parts/service should be easier there. Even while there, we ride the Vespas more than the 4-wheels.
But may try to get her to look at something else. She LOVES the look of it and makes her choice on that. I will be the driver.
Thanks for the quick review

I agree. I have an LX 700h and it’s a beast but it’s not a drivers car unless you’re over landing. I love so much about it. And it the best daily I’ve ever owned. But it’s not an inspired driver unless you’re off-road. When you are though, it’s elite.

I like how you had to clarify that you only rented the RAV4. Had to make sure that everyone knows you would only buy something like a G-Wagon.
