I’ve never seen broccoli sold by the pound. It’s always by the unit.

Would the broccoli last transportation without the stem attached? If so then she is stealing. It not i see her point.

Search, you'll find that it is in fact sold by the lb.
I did and I see that it's also sold by the unit but not where I shop. Not all heads of broccoli are equal.

I think it's acceptable to do this with bananas because someone else will come along and buy the other half of the bunch. Nobody is going to buy a broccoli stem.

I don't mind it. I eat the stems though so I'll need to consider other opportunities for saving 5 cents on a food item. Maybe skinning fruits or coring bell peppers.

Also ok with ginger. Everyone breaks off a piece. Not many folks need a 6 inch chunk of ginger

These are randomly sold at my store by the unit while chili peppers, onions, etc are all sold by the lb.
There is still size deviation but I guess it’s more consistent?

Dumb asses do dumb stuff.
In high school I worked at a grocery store and would have to jump over to the seafood counter at night to serve customers when the normal guy left for the day.
Had several instances where these folks would walk up and ask me to filet them some catfish and charge the bone in price. They would get pissed off that I wouldn’t do it because apparently one of the old men who worked during the day would do it for them
