Nah, they just aren't sex dens. They were more like a place to crash that we didn't spend any time in.
We would go to bars/clubs and stuff like that to find women.
FWIW, I've stayed in hostels in Prague, Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Barcelona, and several other places.
In Amsterdam, a few buddies and I booked some beds at this hostel with awesome reviews and when we're getting settled in, my buddy has a 6 pack of beer from the corner market and the manager of the hostel lets us know it is a "sober" Christian hostel with a curfew. Soooo we quickly packed and left

Pretty much. Some are just dorms. Lots of people who haven't showered in a while in some of them.

There are some smelly arse people in some of those hostels too.
And overnight trains if you and your friends don't book the whole cabin. I had some Euro version of gutter punks in one of mine once and I had to leave the cabin it smelled so bad. Was like being inside someone else's old gym sock.

Did my buddies and I bring back strange to the hostels occasionally? Sure. But we didn't hang out with people we met there or spend any time in the hostels other than to shite, shower, shave, and sleep.
