Even in 2018 they could somehow AI copy the victims kids voice in getting bail money for the kid.

Watch the movie Beekeeper. If she used a debit card to pay it could be retrieved as fraud.

Not sure about wire transfers. Call your bank manager first thing.

If this is a troll shame on you because a lot are really being scammed.

How old is she? Might be dementia creeping in.

Maybe some business owners have different info, but it's like pulling teeth whenever I have tried to take even $1,000 from a bank the past few years. I feel like the only places with cash on hand like that are casinos. This story is bonkers.

I’ve pulled out ~10k in cash on a few different occasions and I’ve never had an issue

The last time I pulled real cash out it was 70k at hancock whitney. They acted like terrorists were going to break in at any moment to get it.

They pulled me into the back. We counted it. And then they asked if I wanted an escort to the truck.

My exact words "that would only show people I have something to steal."

Shoved the cash in two seperate pockets of cargo shorts and walked out.

Last time I ever asked for cash when closing an account

I thought it would be fun... It was a giant annoyance.

It’s ALOT of money. But it’s just money. Unless you want to be divorced, don’t keep bitching.

What did she think she did for a $17k warrant?

I’d never give money but I had a scam call a few months back that had me going for longer than I wanted to admit. He was extremely professional and could tell I was driving and even asked if I could pull over before continuing.

Of course when “the turn” happened I immediately realized it and do what I always do with these fricks: see how long they wait for me after I tell him I’m going going to be right back I just need to get my bank info and then just go on mute

I know the Credit Unions I am familiar with here require at least a day's notice to withdraw anything more that $2k-$5k in cash.

Hate it for the OP

Maybe I just don’t do enough adult personal business, but even the most professional person in the world will have nothing for me. It’s hard to wrap my head around people even coming close to getting scammed.

I don’t have any debts. I don’t do my own taxes. I don’t have a criminal history. Etc. There’s just nothing even a professional, polite caller could convince me is wrong.

I don’t even answer the phone to unknown numbers to begin with. It’s mind blowing to me that it happens.

Tbf I was never convinced I did anything wrong, it was more of a “huh? Is there some sort of mistake I need to sort out?” kind of thing. Again, my radar was up the whole time, I’m just saying that some of these have gotten pretty sophisticated and it didn’t sound like the typical scam call at first. I’d never have fallen for it and I sure as shite would never wire anyone 17 thousand fricking dollars, but - like I said - this one was good enough that I embarrassingly didn’t sniff it out the second he started talking.

Unfortunately I have a job that means I frequently get legit calls from unknown numbers.

Putting the conversation aside and even if it sounds legit, what fricking idiot buys gift cards or some other kind of currency to satisfy a legal matter. Pure stupidity

Funny enough, this is actually the reason I don't answer unknown numbers. I am big on "training" clients to always email first.

(I don't work in an industry where anything is emergency level enough to warrant me dropping everything, and I'm insanely responsive/quick on email)
