What do you propose?

What you need to be asking is why these events were almost unheard of thirty years ago
The simple answer is the internet. Before the internet psychopaths couldn’t easily talk to other people just like them from around the world anytime they want to and share ideas, talk about who/what they hate, get angrier, but supplies and decide to do something like this. Basically gaining access to anything you need to do something like this is 10000x easier today than it was 30 years ago.

Why? It's the fastest way to become famous in this country, guaranteed to have your name spoken by an entire nation, your entire life history talked about on all forms of media.
When you're a kid who feels no one cares about you, and that you're worthless, what better way to make sure people care about you and who you are?
That's where we are as a country.

Wait, so you're making fun of Republicans politicizing drag shows by politicizing dead children?
Terrible situation, and frick that disgusting excuse for a human who would go and shoot kids. Hopefully the injured pull through.

The shooter was female.
That has to be incredibly rare. I cannot ever recall a shooting like this where the pos who did it was female.

You want you children sexualized, not dead. I got you.

I do not know what the answer is for the mental illness in our country, but what we are doing now is not working. It's beyond time to stop pointing at inanimate objects as the root cause and start actually protecting the mentally ill from themselves and others.
1. Jesus and fathers in homes leading their families with love and limits.
2. Force insurance companies to actually pay for mental health services.
3. Force the government to pay for mental health services.
4. Pass laws that allow us to detain people for up to 30-90 days when they make clear threats to self or others. Also, that we can extend that time for up to 1 year until they are clinically stable.
5. We would need far less of #2-4 if we focused on #1.

Do the ppl in this thread calling for action not realize we just passed a huge national gun control bill?

I question how they get their guns as well.

Technically we already can in TN, more or less. An emergency order can be entered to detain someone in a mental health facility. They're entitled to a hearing within 15 days of that involuntary commitment. Then, at the hearing on an involuntary commitment, they can be held an additional 15 days. At the end of the 15 days if they still refuse to comply with treatment and/or need more treatment but refuse to consent, then a new complaint can be filed to hold them indefinitely. As stated previously, it's not so much about whether there are laws that can address this but rather the funding. The facilities who hold these involuntary people don't want them anymore once insurance runs out because they can't afford to continue to take care of them. So what usually happens is a conservator signs off on the transfer to a long-term care facility (usually a group home or nursing home) or a conservator is petitioned for and appointed to do the same. However, people taking their meds aren't going to be held forever. There just isn't the funding for it. So, in short, it's the funding, not the laws, that is the biggest issue.

Oh, they exist, but are only used for political reasons. IF you get a reply, it will be the fault of the political enemy somehow.

Yep - 1979 Grover Cleveland Elementary School shooting in San Diego is only one I can pull up with multiple fatalities by a 16 yr old girl as the shooter.

You guys don’t actually want money invested into mental health care because you don’t want government money involved in health care at all. That’s just an excuse to keep the government away from your guns.

Maybe we should actually address the parenting and societal issues that are creating these little psychopaths, and quit pretending that inanimate objects are the root cause.
I think the solution is going to take a multifaceted approach. And while many disagree, I think gun control has to be part of it. We shouldn't take guns from law abiding people, but we need to figure out how we're going to keep them out of the hands of crazy people. I don't think that's such a crazy idea.
I realize nothing is going to happen tomorrow, next week or even in the next ten years. However, if these school shootings continue over the next one hundred years at the same rate we've seen in recent years I don't know how we can keep ignoring it.

Every school in this country should have some ratio-to-student resource officers. It’s insane to me that even a 200 kid school didn’t have at least one cop there at all times.
