I'm not home but that's about the price I paid. We did buy for $79 the 5 year protection plan or whatever. Figure that we usually don't but the reviews were bad but it hAd the agitator and I could select my water level so we bought the set and the plan.
So far so good .. Husband is a farmer and his clothes are nice and clean (trust me he comes home nasty).

Kenmore dryer won't turn off. It goes into the "cool down" cycle, but it won't turn off. It spins and spins and spins. What could be up?
TIA!!

What about kitchen appliances? Any brands to stay away from or ones you recommend?
Stay away from GE, especially with refrigerators, for the last decade+ they have had a central control. Whenever someone has a fridge problem I always ask if it's a GE if it is I bring a control board and explain on the phone that most likely it's going to be that.
My fridge brand is electrolux/frigidaire. I like their fridges. I also really like the newer Korean units as well(LG and Samsung).
Dacor is an iffy one if you like high end. I had a Dacor four burner cooktop today, the control box was bad. My price on that part was $755. When Dacor breaks, they will cost minimum $500 to fix.

Is the agitator not necessary?
They spin faster and create a whirlpool like effect of the clothes, and are supposed to be softer on the fabrics. FWIW they seem to not clean as good as the old agitators though.

The washer hose reference got me to thinking. My 80s model Maytag washer has its original hoses. Is it time to change them out?
Yes. The mfgs say every five years, but I say at least every ten.
If that hose busts and you aren't home, it will be a major headache.
(I see a higher fail rate of braided steel hoses though)

I went and checked them out a minute ago. Looks as if they have a thick enough coat of dust on them to plug any kind of a leak.

Where do you get these from in the BR area? I've never even heard of this brand until Nap's recommendation today.

AMEN AMEN AMEN
We have a side be side GE from the early 2000s. Have had to replace the water line 4 times... why? Because whomever designed the thing ran the water line right beside the compressor... which gets hot, melts it or whatever and ruins our hardwood floor underneath the refrigerator because the water that is supposed to be going into the icemaker is going onto the floor.

yeah that's common, there is a kit to fix that issue.
There is another brand that has a similar problem and I can't think of it.
I also know for 2015 LG switched to a new type of compressor, but you have to be a LG warranty customer to get any info on that. So I think in the near future the amount of people who fix LG units will decline. (doing warranty work sucsk)

Yes. We bought a Maytag dryer there. Has the standard manufacturer's warranty and couldn't beat the price.

Sears...whatever they have on sale that fits your needs. Pay attention to the manfuacturers of each model. These are appliances most likely kept in a basement of mud room. They should be functional and reliable above all else. Don't spend a fortune on aesthetics.
