Nonsense. Doctor is an academic title, it isn't reserved solely for medical practitioners.

Had a guidance counselor in high school correct anyone that didn't call him doctor. Don't even remember what garbage Phd he had. Clearly not one worth a damn if he's a high school guidance counselor.

See this is where you are wrong. MDs are only practicing where PHDs discover things for MDs to practice. I know PHDs that could school the average MD on disease and biology. The reality is all those that earn the terminal degree in their field earned the right to be called doctor.

It would be pretty upsetting if you have a stroke on a plane and someone asks for a doctor and Dr. Twinkletoes with a PHD for a dissertation on the effects of systemic racism raises his hand to help.

Maybe Owlie should be specific and ask for an M.D.

I have an honorary doctorate. Never refer to myself as doctor. Only PhD I know of who does that is Jill Biden.

I can accept it in an academic setting. In the workplace when that "expertise" is as likely as useful as a 6th toe? Nope

Just because someone doesn’t treat someone medically doesn’t mean they didn’t complete the schooling for doctorate level honors.

My wife (no pics) has PhD in her email signature, but I’ve never heard her refer to herself as Dr. Wafer.

Real Doctors treat more than one species.

..and it’s tougher to be a Veterinarian than a regular Doctor because the animals can’t talk to you.

Doctorate just means you completed the terminal degree in your discipline,

The real problem is some of these disciplines are a joke,

Only one percent of the population hold a doctoral degree. Going by the OP, you would think they grow on trees.

People earned the title. If they want to call themselves that then so be it.

I think it’s pretentious for an MD to demand to be called Doctor So-And-So.

But I digress.

She has an EdD (a Doctorate of Education). While it isn't a PhD or MD...it also isn't an honorary doctorate.

She did complete the coursework for the degree. That being said...I know a lot of people with EdDs...and none of them refer to themselves as Doctor outside of the classroom...their students, however, do refer to them as Doctor when in class as a sign of respect.
