Lifting. People don't seem to understand you can get an excellent cardio workout through resistance training
This is true if you are doing the big compound movements with very little rest between sets. Lots of squats, deads, power cleans, standing OH press, etc..This is not true for the guy sitting on the bench for 5-6 minutes between sets of 5 reps of 90% of his max or the guy who does nothing but isolation lifts (seated curls, tricep cables, seat delt raises, etc..)

Besides runners usually have pretty pathetic physiques.
most runners run because they enjoy it
most lifters lift because they are vain douchebags

What supplements are you assuming?
The most basic. The majority of people in the gym take a pre workout. A huge caffeine boost to get them ready. That's obviously a negative.

I'm sure the only thing the guy does on the right is sprint. Running HIIT gets you that upper body strength.
Plus Finnish people are weird.

Lift to add mass, cardio to tone/lean up.

This should go great from here! I agree though.

Some body types are better and more suited to running. Others more suited to lifting and building mass. Each needs to do some of the other but the thin runner type body most likely will not be able to build mass just like the bigger body types will most likely never be razor thin and able to run a fast 10k.....fast like under 30 minutes.

Yea if you're lazy. Anyone can get swole and then cut it all off and run sub 6 minute miles a few months later. It's called dedication.....

I said "properly executed" for a reason. Just because you threw around too much weight does not mean that lifting weights is dangerous, only that you did not properly execute that particular lift. If one maintains proper form during weight-lifting, the risk of injury is very low. Also, repetitive movements like running are known to cause long-term negative effects such as arthritis and other degenerative issues.

I haven't written a traditional cardio routine for a general fitness client in 10 years. Jumping around in a circle and flapping your arms like a bird is = to running for cardio/caloric burn. Now if you like to run or you do it to compete, more power to you. I can get the results I need from what we do 3 days/wk & proper diet. If they wanna throw in a day or 2 of some type of cardio...cool. We don't "lift" in a traditional way either though.

These dumb fricks who have never seen a gym are so hilarious. How many people do u see using proper form in the gym daily. Where is the proper form chart in each gym?

Why dont you all just lift weights and run at the same damn time?
Posted on 7/3/14 at 12:36 pm to Schmelly
What type of routine do you do? I have recently started incorporating a lot more supersets and very short rest periods.

Circuit training has been around for decades. People don't do it because it's hard. People are lazy.
Fit people aren't lazy - they do what's effective - for some, it's HIIT, for others it's circuits, but you have very few fit people who just do cardiovascular exercises - particularly the widely discredited LSD. The very few fit people who only do cardio are doing it at a competitive level of intensity, HIITs or some combination.
