I did. I didn't really want to, but reality is what it is. By living in California I can enjoy a rewarding career and my herb. Had I stayed in Louisiana, I would've been shackled by poverty and made to feel like a criminal. It was a very, very easy decision.

When I graduated Auburn, the majority of the job opportunities were in ATL. That still holds true, but Birmingham and Huntsville are growing enough to keep more and more of those people here.

I moved out. I was an expat. I made 7 or 8x what I make now.
It had it's moments.
But I've been all over the world, and I've sampled a little bit of everything. Louisiana is home.
And I always love reading these threads here people talk about the greatness of other states. Ignoring the shittiness there as well.
Every ingle time I travel out of state, I'm always amazed by what constitutes a house. A large portion of this country lives in places that most of south Louisiana wouldn't even use for a hunting camp.
But hey, whatever makes you feel better. If your goal is a mcmansion in a neighborhood, leave.
If your goal is property, land, and community... Stay.
We can buy more with 150k in louisiana than we could in Houston.

Yep. I ended up in Houston out of college but my number 2 job prospect was in ATL. Have a ton of friends still in ATL.

I made enough money while I was out of state to be able to move to Huntsville and live a very comfortable life. Now I'm back in my hometown where I've opened my own business. The state is corrupt af as far as politics go but they have done a good job of trying to get some industry in here where people can have some sort of option where they work. I live about 30 mins from the Honda plant and that place has made nice lives for a lot of people that dont have the education to get a job where they could make more money.

Except that is factually wrong.

Well, to be fair, Nola is far and away the most expensive area of the state to live in.

Yeah new construction by me is $170 sqft in Prairieville. Katy and Cypress seemed to be around 120 or less.

From what I can tell, I could make 10-15% ish more in Houston in my job
I'm not arguing that Louisiana is better place to live than Texas but I just ran through a salary estimator for my job in Houston. It asked a lot of questions like degree, years of experience, certifications etc. The median pay in Houston was about what I make now.

I was looking at the cost of living for other places vs Prairieville. Ashville for instance. Wish I could get my wife to leave.

We are fortunate to make a good living in Louisiana but yeah my wife isn't interested in even talking about it while we have a kid in school. She likes Louisiana and she's not even from here

We live less than 10 minutes from her parents. If not for them and the kids she might leave. Maybe in 10 years or so!

Never moving back. Great weather, decent roads, little traffic. So nice to walk and check the mail and not be drenched in sweat from humidity. Louisiana fricking blows

I left for north texas and i only have one big complaint, there isn't nearly as much to do here (at least for me)
in south la, you're only a few hours from some nice beaches, new orleans and all of its events, great saltwater fishing, sports teams i like
the career opportunities and qol make it worth it though

All these betas with their general business degrees can make more in Texas
but real men with real jobs can’t because Texas is basically California now. They just made straws illegal
