that we could still get back to see family without having to stop overnight or fly.

Where did you move to? What kind of searching did you do before moving? I’m about at my breaking point, but 3 kids with friends in school is making it difficult. Wife works from home, so she can go anywhere. I should be able to find a job as well, but just don’t know where to even think about moving. My kids are social and play sports recreationally, so I’d like to be able to keep doing that. But I need to get out of here. I never thought I’d leave because of how much I love LSU, but at some point safety and quality of life have to trump that. Anyway, just curious what places people have moved to.
are you looking to stay in louisiana or you looking to get out completely?
are you thinking more texas or are you thinking more like Georgia, NC, Tenn, florida?
got to give us a little more.

There are some really great communities where you will feel protected amongst like-minded people like New Roads, St. Francisville etc. However, what I wished I would have known ahead of time was the lack of internet speed as one example. I got spoiled with those underground utilities and fiber when I was in BR, but all else equal I wouldn't go back to the city. I still have to drive into that shithole every morning but I'm out of dodge by 4pm every work day. But yes, it will take you about 3 months to get adjusted as you won't have the immediate amenities at your fingertips and that feel of hustle n bustle vibrancy, but it is well worth it I promise in the long run.

Same question.. Is anybody going to be left here in 5 years?
Only murderers and future murder victims.
Sorry, that’s way too overboard. Only criminals and future crime victims.

We don’t miss living there at all.

We moved 4 years ago and haven’t been back at all within 2 years. Our family visits us but we really don’t want to go back to visit.
I won’t even try to push my kids to attend LSU because I don’t want them to feel trapped by a job opportunity in Baton Rouge.

My wife and I moved to The Woodlands (suburb north of Houston) about a year ago. We love it. Just outside of Harris county and it just has a different feel from Houston proper. Having said that, you are close enough to drive over for concerts, restaurants, etc.
Although we don't go to the city too often. Lots to do in The Woodlands area. Great restaurants, shopping, and recreational activities. We don't have kids but I hear the schools are great.
We went up to Lake Conroe recently and enjoyed that as well. Only about 20 minutes away. We love our neighborhood (it's called Grogan's Mill) and is one of the older neighborhoods there. Great neighbors and I can walk to a championship golf course.
Real estate prices are reasonable as well. Nothing like moving to Colorado, California, etc. Let me know if you have any questions.
I'm done with Louisiana. We are still close enough to drive over to visit my parents in Lafayette occasionally but I'm trying to convince them to move over by us. Hopefully they will soon.

People that leave La and want to stay in the south primarily tend to go to Tx and secondarily to the area between Birmingham, Nashville, Knoxville, Raleigh, Charlotte, Greenville, Atlanta.
That area of northern AL/GA, eastern TN, western NC and upstate SC has tons of industries (except O&G), great outdoor activities, 4 season, mild winters and nice towns/neighborhoods.
If you don’t take the Texas route and want to stay in the South but avoid the hurricanes, that area of the mid-upper inland SE is fantastic.
Also, you can actually eat outside almost any summer evening and not sweat your balls off and be eaten my mosquitoes.

You move where the higher paying job takes you. For most people, this means you’re moving to Texas.
If you look at the fastest growing big cities, you see 4 Texas cities (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin) and Phoenix.
4 of those 5 cities feature no state income tax and a property tax that incentivizes monetization of property. That seems to correlate with quality of life pretty well. Also, when you give a shite about property, you give a shite about crime.
Texas has their shite together.

I know plenty that left after college for jobs and then ended up back in BR. I don't know many that left later with a family and then went back.

I'm having a hard time deciding between Shreveport, Jackson or New Orleans. I'll let you know when I make my decision...

I moved out of LA right after college and came back after a year or so. But I didn't like living in NYC after a few months. I was just young, dumb and "in love"

I would say most left over 20 yrs ago either for college or jobs after college and made it back to BR when starting a family. Maybe bc they are from SE BR mostly highland rd area??? I have only experienced crime once and that was in college next to the circle k on highland when a white guy on acid pointed a gun at me. I also know plenty who haven't come back...i think that is common everywhere though.
