So a magnet school versus a private school?
Nope, traditional public school.

And meant to say 24 vs a 26

That’s from the 2021 classes I believe

Exact numbers were 23.8 from the public and 25.8 from the private(25.1 for the all girl private).

The public also recently had 6 merit winners while the girl private had 1 and boy private school had 7

And if it matters, which this thread has been so terrified to actually say it does, 7% culture vs 3% culture

There are no good public schools in LA. I would even say many magnet programs are watered down by the low expectations of LA education. If you really think it is adequate you probably need to see areas that are actually considered good in other states that aren’t the bottom of the rankings.

a lot going on here.
1 - Magnet =/= Advanced Study Academy. You do not test to gain acceptance to a magnet school like you do for an advanced academy.

i went to Jesuit. i am incredibly lucky to have both kids test into an academy. i can tell you that other than only boys vs. boys and girls there is not a whole bunch of difference. biggest difference i can see is that the principal has her hands tied by the school board. at Jesuit, the principal can do just about anything he wants.

drugs were at JHS. they are at my kid's school. they are everywhere.

parents were very involved at JHS, and are very involved at my kids school.

in my hs time, a weird kid might have been a skate or die type. now, it is a trans kid that is offended by its own shadow. both have problems, they are just different problems.

the bottom line is that if your kid wants to find trouble or drugs, he/she will find it. if they want to study hard, they will do well. it all starts at home.

pride, this thread was started as a comparison of schools, not as a sociology class. no need to go down that road.

A lot of schools are not much different from each other. The comparison is by who goes to them

My only stip behind going Private is the kids that went to private when I was in school were all shite heads with rich parents. I don’t want to fit that description or even be close to it.

Some may argue the education is the same.

I love this question on this board because this is the answer. If you have to ask this question then you know the answer, public schools in LA are apparently ok for you so you should send your kid there. This question has never crossed the table of my house and won't ever cross the table of any of my children's homes when they have kids because I already answered it for them. If you don't realize that your private school bill is considerably more critical to your family's future in this state than any other bill, mortagage included, then you obviously don't see the same landscape as I do and thankfully this bodes well for my family.

Late to the thread but every time this topic comes up I’m thankful I live in Mandeville. Public schools here are better than the private options.

Wow,

I went to public school and graduated in '99 in CENLA. My education leaned more towards the terrible side of things and I didn't have any discipline.

I had a decent combination of luck and skill and intelligence that have brought me to my current point.

Do you guys realize for the amount of money you're paying to the local private school you could have your kid rubbing shoulders with royalty in european boarding schools and semi-boarding schools?

You can get your kids into UCW, or AEFE or any of the elite international school associations which can set your kid up for life. I don't just mean getting into LSU either

Private school is basically the new travel ball thread with people paying tons of money for a product that used to be basically free then touting the successes.

I 100% believe the best public schools in LA would not stack up to decent places in other states.

Ok. Show me a state where a 24 act and 6 national merit finalists wouldn’t even be “decent”

A lot of people out there think THEIR public school is just fine, it’s all the others that suck
