Which is complete bull$hit. Those snails showed up 10-12 years ago in the marshes and some species of bird has eaten them to all but gone. So pretty much like everything the news reports…FABRICATED
This isn’t true
The apple snail population is strong and growing in swla - they are also moving further north
Limkins are helping but also very few acres of crawfish are really affected

It's always too much rain, not enough rain, too hot, too cold, not enough wind, too much wind, too may clouds, , lsu didn't win enough games, earthquake in Japan, flooding in China, etc
I really wonder is it basically just supply and demand. Crawfish used to be a regional thing. Then 10-20 years ago, people all over the south started boiling them. Now crawfish are being shipped everywhere. Get on Facebook and I see people from Texas to Tennessee now boiling them.

Believe it or not, the first sacks this season are going to be available in late October.

Yes - rainfall conditions this summer are favorable for crawfish reproduction this year so strictly from a biological perspective the crawfish crop will be much better.
But not all crawfish farmers might have been able to afford to restock their ponds from last year’s crop failures, or they were unable to re-stock at recommended rates b/c of supply & finances, and this is why is might take a couple years for the overall crawfish supply to recover to “normal”.

It’s 100% always bad for crawfish according to farmers and the media, lol

I have been in the crawfish business for over 40 years and I will tell all the people who think there is big money in crawfish to go out and start farming crawfish. Tell me how rich you are in 5 years. It is not as easy as most people think. What doesnt cost more than it did a few years ago. I know high prices make it hard to afford crawfish too often but when prices are high it is because we arent catching many. It is real easy for a moderate sized farmer to rack up 250,000 dollars in fixed costs. I still encourage anybody that thinks this is easy money to step up to the plate and show the rest of us how to do it.

Preach…. Everything has gone up, but people think crawfish shouldn’t, always makes me laugh. The truth is the price to the farmer hasn’t even gone up to the same inflation prices as other industries.

I think some people suffer from what I dub the Goldilocks Syndrome. It is never right it is either too hot or too cold. Then it needs a little more of this or that and then once you add it still never makes them happy.
Never get into an argument with people with Goldilocks syndrome. They are the worst people to point out they may have something wrong. They will try to gaslight into their thinking or reasoning.

I get 20 of those little assholes every time it rains. There's always more. I'm not even sure where they keep coming from. Get out of my lawn!

I wonder if they'll get more "aid" this year from the government

I know farming ain’t easy. I watched my old man not make shite in 30 fricking years. I just enjoy the press release on price increase reasoning and the OT reaction thereto. I don’t even eat the goddamned things.
