Yeah if you were unemployed for 15 months, either you are rich or not motivated

SELA, Energy sector.
I mean, I'm not knighting for the guy to get a job. I barely know him. I was just curious because he seems like he's being shunned and he seemed to have had a pretty standard career history up to now.

15 months, if he wasn't travelling or volunteering o would assume he's not resourceful and lazy.

yeah.. dude should start his own business at minimum (LLC filing, web page, business card) and say he worked on that for the past 15 months.
and if he didn't, just lie about it. sure as frick don't say "I did nothing for 15 months"

Father in law was in a similar position. Upper level management doing a very specific thing that he liked. Moved to Houston for a new job, didn't like the job and quit. Looked around for a while and waited for the right position. Ended up taking a job back in BR. Wanna say it was a span of over a year without a job, but he ended up getting the exact type of position he wanted, just not in the place he wanted. Tell your friend to be patient, but maybe lower his standards

The problem he is going to run into is there are an abundance of people looking for the same jobs that he is applying to. If he has a large gap in employment (a few months) he may get a second look but will have to be ready to explain the absence. Once it goes over 3 months, unless the rest of his resume knocks the hiring person off their feet; he won't get more than a few seconds of their time as the scan through the 100s of resumes they receive.

Then if he's not getting interviews, its because he isn't doing a few things.
1. He isn't matching his resume to the job. I mean, EVERY listing, he should tailor
He probably thinks he's tailoring, but no interviews, assuming he's applying for appropriate positions is from bad tailoring.
2. He isn't working LinkedIn. I mean, REALLY working it. There are so many effective strategies that people just overlook.
Back to 1. The problem he's having for jobs like what he's after, almost every single listing is using an ATS to filter applicants. You can be great but you have to prove it to a computer. That's an art. One I'm very good at.
Second. Even when you defeat the ATS, its likely that the next person that sees your resume STILL isn't the actual hiring authority.
I would happily review his resume of he'd like. But, if i review it, i always tell people to send the relevant listing too. A resume with no context is useless

I never spoke to them pre employment at other companies either.

I don't.
But when i was making a career transition, i made it my business to learn EVERYTHING i could. In the 6 month lead up, i made it my job.
Since then, I've helped at least a dozen others get jobs or improve from the jobs they had.
Now. People tend to reach out to me

Couple of LinkedIn notes
You'd be surprised how many people are willing to be helpful.
Use the search tool. List all companies you find interesting. And positions even if not open now
Search LinkedIn for people in those companies that hold the relevant positions.
Vet them to find ANY commonalities. Same high school. Same college. Same grad year. Same prior company. Etc etc.
Reach out. I typically use the commonality as starter and tell them I'm looking to learn from their successful experience getting their position.
You'd be amazed. I'd say i got about a 20% response rate. People would even send me copies of the resume that got them their job.
Heck. If i had a gap, i would consider anyone who showed a prior gap in their employment a resource.
Every field is unique. Work your field!
