They were put up to remember history. By tearing them down, you are literally tearing down history. There's tons of statues worldwide dedicated to "the losing side". Just two years ago Serbia put up a statue to Gavrilo Princip. Germany has statues of the Kaiser. France has statues of Napoleon. Northern Ireland has statues of Cromwell. This is a BS American PC problem.

These statues were put up at a time when radical reconstruction was a fresh memory.
The carpetbaggers treated the south like shite. Lee and PGT in particular were gracious in defeat and did what they could to heal the Union. They are figures worthy of memorializing IMO
The Liberty Place thing is different, not unreasonable to remove that.

If I am not mistaken the bronze part of the statue stands sixteen feet tall so they will have to lay it down for transport. I won't be surprised it it gets damaged.

People need to start filing state FOIAs on all the city expenditures on this moronic statue removal stunt. Examine the paper trail, and see where the money leads. Also let's out Mitch's "secret donor." You can bet it is someone with a checkered past. It's amazing that someone is allowed to have so much influence on our mayor and not be identified. Whatever happened to transparency in government?
Hopefully New Orleans gets another aggressive US Attorney like Jim Letten so we can get back to locking up all the thieves in city hall. I bet you could get some convictions out of the statue removal stunt alone.

There is some dumbass with a bullhorn trying to rile up the crowd. These people aren't done by a long shot, they want "all symbols of white supremacy" torn down across the state. Every street renamed, etc...
