Glad they’re safe. Despite everyone’s reservations it seems like you not being part of their travel made things easier.
Little man is going to have one hell of a life story.

Thankful your family is safe! I have been checking in on your updates and praying they would be safe and you can reconnect with them.
Im glad that your stepson is out of there, the way this is going I wouldn't be surprised if they grabbed every able bodied young man if it keeps dragging on.

He's young enough to make the best of it. When one door closes, another one opens. Fate is how we all got here.
Switzerland is one of the nicest countries. I wish they were there under better circumstances, but glad to hear they are out of danger and you are finally able to meet up with them.

Another long time reader, first time poster chiming in. So glad they are safe and your family will be reunited soon! I hope your father-in-law ends up ok and your stepson adjusts well to all of the changes. It isn't easy for a teenager to have their life uprooted, especially in such a violent manner. I bet you're counting the minutes until you can hold you baby and hug your wife again.

Thanks for the update. So happy that they are safe.

He’s still young enough you’ve got a shot at turning him into a good ol’ baw, baw. Just curious if you ever found out what his biological dad is doing during all of this, is he fighting, did he leave? I know you said he didn’t have much to do with your stepson early on, but had started to come around a bit more.
Glad everyone is safe & secure.

Man! I can’t imagine what y’all have been through! In hind sight, you could pick apart your actions (I know I would) and I’m sure you have but you were able to help get them to safety and to do this from across the world! I’ve been following along and praying for you and your family. So happy for y’all. Hoping to get the update soon when y’all are able to be together in person. Until then stay strong brother!

UPDATE: 4/9/22
I appreciate everyone's concerns and well wishes. I spoke with the wife for a long time this morning. They seem to be feeling a better with just a few lingering effects from being sick.
It does appear they plan on staying in Switzerland and are in the process of getting what they call a S visa. I know the wife will stay with them for a bit to make sure they are getting adjusted.
I haven't heard anything lately about her son's father. I know he stayed in Kiev but didn't participate in the fighting. I will ask about him.
My stepson, Ilya will adjust. He is about to turn 16 and just had his whole life uprooted. He had friends in Ukraine, a girl he talked to on the phone for a hour every night, school, etc. It's going to be difficult but his future might be better because of all of this.
I worry about Slava, wife's father, a lot. He was sending me videos yesterday. Russian soldiers could check his phone, see he is sending messages to America, call him a traitor and kill him just for that.
Yulia told me that the bombing is really bad in Lisichansk. They had some friends that tried to evacuate but could not and walked to Slava's hospital to stay at the hospital. Yulia told me an ammunition depot blew up and destroyed everything around it. She said that Russian media is blaming the train bombing yesterday on the Ukrainian army and says they don't even have that type of bomb. If you're Russian, I guess it is easy to believe that.
For me personally, there is lot to process but I'm just mostly thankful. I wouldn't be able to sit back and hope my family survived a situation like Mariupol. I would have had to go to them and I'm not sure if any of us would have lived through it. They are safe and that is good enough for me. My concerns are mostly for her father now.

highly recommend going back to re-read the first few pages of this thread. Some incredibly confident predictions laid out there based on frick all and passed off as fact.

This might be the stupidest question I’ve ever heard.
But you meant for it to be…enjoy your time there.

So you're family is in Switzerland? Why aren't you in the next flight there?

I'm having the nerves cauterized in my back on April 19th. I have a plane ticket for April 21st. Don't worry, I'm plenty anxious to see them.

You don't even realize how stupid you just made yourself sound. How is your baseball team doing this weekend?

I can understand this comment if it were made on the first page or two, but you dove into a months old, 50 page thread with nearly 1,000 replies and displayed your ignorance for the entire world to see.
Don't come in sideways on two wheels if you don't know what the hell is even going on.

Point taken. I’m not sure how I landed on/found this post without realizing the time span.
My bad. I apologize .

Great news.
But like someone else said a page or two back, it'd be optimal to get them on this side of the Atlantic if at all possible.
