Between the wife and I we pay close to $1500/month.
FWIW she's a lawyer, I am an engineer. My portion is only $60/month. She is currently looking for work. Go figure.
Sounds about right.

Pay right at 1000 a month for the wife. Got 6 more years of that too
Posted on 8/3/14 at 8:28 am to kjntgr
About $700 a month, which is the minimum. 4 years to go.

$1,100/month. Sucks. Going to try to ramp that up once the woman finishes school and gets a job. Will probably put close to 100% of my income toward the loan so that it will be paid off in a year or so.
It's so much

There are many government programs that reduce and forgive public servant/educator loans out there. For example, I'll have $5k knocked off before I even make my first payment.
After 120 straight payments, about $15,000 (95% of it interest) will be wiped off the books for me.

Paid my wife's loans off last year. Erased 65k of loans in two years

I pay 750/month. Unless my situation drastically changes (marriage, much better job, etc.), I'll be paying that amount or greater for the next 23 years.

What on earth did you do to get 200k in debt?

I hope you're a orthopedic surgeon

We pay ~$1280 a month. Wife is a veterinarian and I'm a lowly chemist. Forever left to pay on them, but we have 3 kids, mortgage, etc. We just try to manage the debt and still enjoy life. All the interest rates are at 6.1% or below.

I had no loans but my wife racked up some for her masters degree. We are paying $3,000/mo and hope to get it knocked out within 12-14months. I hate debt with interest. Goal is to erase $44k in less than 18 months

Holy shite. If I paid 1000 a month mine would be paid off in less than a year.
180 a month here

I was upset about my daughter's $300/month until I read this thread.

$44k for a master's? Was she OOS or at a badass school?
Posted on 8/3/14 at 9:48 am to The Easter Bunny
Minimum of around 1600/month between the wife and I. Both from law school loans
Posted on 8/3/14 at 9:52 am to The Easter Bunny
The 44k paid for her living and expenses too. Her parents paid for everything in undergrad, but she was on her own for grad school. 4 semesters + 2 summer sessions at LSUHSC

I had $35K when I graduated and paid that off in 3 years...then I got married and took on her $130K in student loans. She's a pharmacist, so 4 years of OOS undergrad and 4 years of grad school, will add up quick. The good thing is that she came out making good money.
After consolidation, the minimum is around $800/month, but we're paying $1600/mo to speed things up.
