To me it's still worth it. It and Youtube premium are my favorite subscriptions. Netflix and zhBO are the ones i think about dropping. Already dropped peacock and hulu.

(laughs in pirated mp3 files)

Those subscription services don't have everything I want to listen to anyways.

The plan was to always to get people to accept all these subscriptions services as the new normal by starting them off at very cheap prices.

Then they just ramp up the price every year like the proverbially frog in a boiling pot of water.

They are guessing most people are too lazy or unaware to ever cancel.

Every single subscription service on the planet has done this, insane year over year price increases hot and heavy.

All the while they add absolutely nothing of value while the prices go up every year.

i agree with you that this was always the plan. i also agree with you that it is annoying, especially with the video streaming services that the prices keep going up and the content stays relatively the same. i'm in a constant ebb and flow of canceling services and then joining them again when tehre's something i want to watch. it's really irritating, but i acknowledge that i'm part of the problem by keeping on using them.

that said, for me, Spotify premium is well worth it, and would be worth it to me at twice the price. i listen to music all the time, and the ability to hear virtually any song I want, from virtually any location, at any time i want is pretty amazing to me. i have custom built playlists for workouts, driving, garage working, multiple genres, etc, and it's all downloadable to my phone as well. all this per month for the price of what one CD cost at a music store in 1998.

that said, i totally get why it wouldnt be for someone who just likes to have something on the background and doesnt care much about music one way or the other.

This is exactly why I’m in the process of going back to vinyl and CD’s for my most cherished music. We’ve been duped into renting our music for a small monthly fee. It’s been great but these companies will do everything they can to squeeze customers as far as they’re willing to go.

I’d love to see the 70’s style home stereos come back into fashion.

PSA: Napster's replacement, Soulseek, still exists and works better than ever.

well brother i can tell you that she is almost exactly that in real life, and that was before i had any idea who she was. my interaction with her was fairly limited, but she seemed incredibly fake and she treated me like The Help the whole time, even though we were both just wedding invitees who were sort of helping out the morning of

Same same.

I've tried practically every other service and I think by default I get free Apple Music and Amazon...but still use Spotify. It's the best, has more third party cooperation with stuff, etc.

There are free or cheap versions of most streaming services. I don't understand people's strong aversion to commercials. Stop complaining about the price when you can get the same thing for free.

That being said, spotify has gotten worse with their commercials. Its every two or three songs now.

I pay for YouTube premium and it's like 13.99 or something a month so I get no ads on YouTube, but it comes with YouTube music. It is as good if not better than Spotify.

I switched to Youtube Music when I got YT Premium. Converted over playlists, etc.

I hated it. The Spotify app is much better. I now have YT Premium and Spotify (Family). I disliked the YT Music app that much.
