This whole idea that, because the government isn't censoring things then we shouldn't worry about it, is completely ridiculous. What we've seen from big tech the past few years are the beginning stages of a technocratic fascist state, where big government and big corporations ally and collude to deprive individuals of their liberties without any actual recourse.

All of this.

It didn't come from the Government down. There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship, to start with, no! Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God.

Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

Bradbury predicted this as well. Government did not start the censorship, which made it easier for them. With big tech controlling all the books, music and movies digitally, they have complete control over what is allowed and what isn’t. If you don’t have a hard copy, they can change everything for everyone at once. Poof, like it was never there.

While there are problems with Twitter and YouTube baning people or demonotizing people for stupid shite it isn't happening to just one side like some think. It does bring up the question of what to do with platforms such as Twitter or Facebook as sure they're private companies but there's no real substitute for them like there is for Spotify

Joe Rogan is anti-lockdown.

Wonder if Spotify is willing to cut their golden goose?

Just a friendly reminder that it was Tipper Gore who led that effort. You know, Al Gore's wife...

With other “Washington Wives” of Republicans. Hence the “both sides” comment. It’s not something exclusive to the left and never has been.

It also wasn’t remotely just Tipper Gore. 80s GOP loved them some censorship at the hand of “family values”.

Spotify prohibits content

that may cause offline harm and/or pose a direct threat to public health
So when are they going to take down rap songs that glorify violence and drugs and demean women?

That's all well and good if they apply the rules across the board. You know as well as I do that isn't the case.

Well im over outrage/victim claiming from both sides. Morgan Wallen is one of my favorite country artists to listen to but when spotify and half the country took him off their radio stations i didnt pretend to be outraged or a victim. I'll find his music somewhere if i wanna hear it (the album is still up on spotify. Also i would think the outrage from the left if they removed some NPR podcast from spotify would be stupid too. None of us are victims. People in other parts of the world actually have real problems that dont involve their favorite singer having his somg taken off a streaming service

This one incident would be irrelevant if it was isolated. It isn't. Good on you for sticking your head in the sand, but that doesn't make you a better person.

I would be very willing to bet that the same executives at Spotify who banned this song, were very outspoken about the gay couple getting refused to have their wedding cake baked.

We're running out of free market choices.

pretty much. We no longer have google, apple, facebook, twitter, youtube, spotify, yahoo, amazon, reddit, twitch, snapchat, tiktok, pinterest, paypal, gofundme, ebay, and I know I'm leaving some out. So where exactly are we supposed to go for anything accessible on the internet at this point? When they started symbolically burning books on ebay, that was IMO officially the end.
