Bus drivers in St. Tammany haven’t received a raise since the late 80s. Meanwhile our Superintendent receives a salary over $200,000 plus a car allowance each month. Entire school board needs new leadership.

I think one of the big issues is one particular part of their pay. That being the operational part. This money is payed to offset the cost of maintaining the bus. Brakes, tires, service work, ect. The operational pay has not been adjusted since 1986. The salary part of pay is based on step raises, based on years of service, and the mileage part of pay moves up and down based on the price of fuel. So bus drivers are having to take money out of their salary pay to make repairs on the buses because it is almost impossible to maintain a bus on 1986 operational money.

frick those bus drivers who sat out today. You don't use kids as leverage you shitbags. Use your union president to negotiate on your behalf and live up to the CBA YOUR union agreed to. Leaving kids stranded and pleading to the parents to get involved in your behalf is bullshite

Wife (no pics) read on NOLA.com that they are on strike. Dispute on pay raises.

Used to date a girl who was a bus driver out there. They were own operators of their buses and was provided an allowance to maintain and keep your bus running, but pay just wasn't enough. It seemed like she was always having to fix something, and when she would be out, she'd have to pay someone to run her route.

His voice sounded PISSED.

Basically apologizing to parents and said that 60 something bus drivers staged an unannounced sick-out and left the school board transportation dept scrambling. Thanked the drivers who showed up to work and picked up extra routes and parents who came to pick up their kids. Cited the part of the school employee collective bargaining agreement that prohibits the stunt the bus drivers pulled today and said he’d do everything in his power to prevent it from happening again.

Mafia guys don’t get caught with their pants down.

This seems to happen to Jabbia all the time.

My mother's bf retired about a year ago from this. They pretty much do it for insurance. The amount of money he put into his bus was substantial. He had a new model Soni can only imagine what someone with one around the limit of 10 years

They are bus drivers, in what word does their salary have any correlation to the superintendent? that’s like a Medical Assistant complaining that the surgeon makes more than her. Come on man, you don’t start a career as a BUS DRIVER to get rich…

My kid is about to enter public kindergarten in STP (Woodlake in Mandeville).
The more OT threads I read about public schools on STP, the more I want to keep him with the Catholics.
Im a South Louisiana private school kid who has high anxiety about sending mine to public schooling. My wife went to public school in a more functional state and says it is a fricked up Louisiana thing to fear public schools.

Supposedly STP (esp Mandeville) has good schools. Please confirm and calm me down or send me into further anxiety spirals.

He said there are 380 drivers in all; 340 who own their own buses.

So most of the drivers are contractors... but they have a union and a salary?

Or are only the 40 staff drivers in the union?

In any event this seemed like a wildcat strike and the union is pissed also because this undermines their authority.
