Sounds like a bad move for you.

I would like to quote you. A quote from Sicario. About the land of wolves.

quote:

You should move to a small town, where the rule of law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and this is the land of wolves now.

How common is it for sales people such as this to be 1099? Seems like employee misclassification (which is very common) to me.

I’m in sales and I personally wouldn’t unless it was a legit territory manager job with a legitimate company

I have no clue. A lot of the sales jobs I applied for were 1099. Not all, but a decent amount were.

They are looking to expand. They are currently at 8 salesman and want to add a few more.

This is bad news as well. They will throw as many salespeople out there as they can because it doesn't cost the company anything, but they will get the profits from all of the new people they hired.

Do you get to keep any floaters?

Seriously, is there anything interesting about what ends up at a wastewater treatment plant? Jewelry?

I'll bet you don't chew your nails?

You might look at service providers for water treatment. NALCO for example treats water in a variety of customer sizes. With your experience, you could get a bump in salary, and a company car.

I worked as 1099 from 2016 to 2021. Honestly it wasn't that bad as I was getting paid hourly. However I had to depend on Medicare and I would dread tax season. Since I had an S-Corp, basically it was filing for both the company and personal. I would deduct expenses on about everything off the business account. Every 2 weeks I would also write checks to my personal account. The big disadvantage was that since I was paying expenses from the business account, my annual income on the personal 1040 form made it appear relatively low (low $30K's). It sucked big time whenever I needed a loan or the time that I needed a home refi as I was denied.

So I got tired of it and felt I was wasting my time (no 401K and benefits either).

So last year I found another job as a full time salaried employee. I have more peace of mind nowadays along with the benefits that I was wishing for.

You'll make the final decision on yourself, but I personally would not do it ever again.

PS- The other thing that sucked I was not paid on holidays and vacations.

Water Treatment does not equal wastewater. I do nothing with wastewater.

Go for it and don't look back. Don't let benefits hold you hostage if the earning potential is much higher being 1099. I'm self employed and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If what they are telling me is even close to being true, than the earning potential is most certainly much higher. I just don't know if they are good salesman and are selling me. That's why I'm sort of cautious.

I don't know exactly how lucrative the roofing business is, that's mainly why I'm making this thread. I know the company is a reputable one. And I have 100% confidence in my ability to learn the business, sales game, and put in the work. That's not the part I'm worried about.

My main concern is that they don't really have to give a shite about me, or be invested in my sales. If I sale, they make money. If I don't, they don't lose money.

As a 1099 worker, be advises you have to pay upfront for both sides of Medicaire, approx 16%. You also have to pay quarterly both sides of the Medicaire plus something for income tax withheld. Plan on taking 30 to 33% for everything you get paid and deposit into a separate account. Use that account to pay your quarterly taxes.

BTW, I am a retired CPA so follow the instructions I just gave you.
