The question is, do roaches have souls?
They have heathen souls and will experience the hell they deserve for eternity.

Pit bulls do not have souls. Neither do their subhuman owners.

Is the picture of the cat local? We had a female cat that looked like that. she got out and has been missing for a month now.

Domestictated animals which essentially have humans fill the beast of burden role and have consistent sources of food without natural predators evolve with more human like traits.
You also see it in pack animals who arent constantly worried about predators - like elephants.
The idea of a soul is just the result of evolutionary selection of biological processes beneficial for the propogations of the species genes. Animals further along that kind of path will exhibit more traits which are similar to a human.

for real though I believe animals definitely have “feelings” and emotions and such. I can tell my cat is genuinely happy and excited to see me when I come home from work each day. Might be the only time that frickers ever happy but still.
Had to bury the household cat 2 weeks ago and the only person she was ever happy to see come home was the wife. She had some sort of biological clock that would find her sitting near the front door listening for the car to pull in the driveway, and as soon as it did, she'd stand up and start meowing.
Bitch was damn near feral when it came to me, and I am home all day long since I'm retired. Only time I could pet her was when the wife was in bed watching TV and the cat was next to her. If I tried to pet her other than in the bed, it was 50/50 whether I'd get bit or scratched.
Still missed her when I made a big pot of gumbo 2 days ago since she would beg for bits of chicken as I took the meat off the bones to pull it into bite size pieces.

Right now I’m looking at about two dozen beautiful birds of different varieties hanging out in my yard that I would not be looking at had the coyote not eaten the neighborhood serial killers. Glad that one got rescued, but I think it got a dose of bear spray.

If he was just rescued, shouldn't it be happy?

And you know this... how?
IMO I think the soul/consciousness/whatever you want to call it, is filtered by the brain. We EVOLVED to receive consciousness. Maybe animals are conscious, but on a different level? Who knows... it's all a guess for no, but science is currently pointing more and more to consciousness being a separate from the brain.
