quote:Agreed, and I don't even like that rendering, but it sure as shite woulda been better than what we're seeing.
I think something that looked more like a futuristic, regular pickup would sell much better. Something like this I guess.
Like I've said, with all the specs of this thing, if someone was truly looking for practicality, it'll blow any of the popular pickups out of the water for the most part...but it just looks so terrible, there's no way we'll see these trucks on the street every time you turn your head like with the Model 3.

quote:Obviously that's going to depend on how much you drive, but we can do a rough calculation. The Model 3 will get about 3 miles per kWh, worst case. Charging efficiency is about 80% I think, so we'll call it 2.4 miles per kWh that you pay for. If you drive an average of 1,000 miles per month, you'll end up putting about 420kWh of juice into the car, which at typical Louisiana rates would cost about $40 or so per month. I believe the newer tech from Tesla gets closer to 4 miles per kWh, so that could drop down to under $30 though. Compared to the $100 you would spend on gas for a car getting 20mpg, that's pretty good.
how much did your electric bill go up?

I also don't understand how the interiors work, does everything operate from the tablet? I actually like having easy access to certain features without having to scroll thru a dashboard on a tablet. Seems like Tesla is more interested in staying in the news than trying to actually sell a lot of vehicles.

Someone please tell me that this is just a prank and they will reveal the real one soon.

What sort of maintenance do you have to do other than new tires? Any idea on the life span of these vehicles?
if youre driving in somewhere like houston you'll want to replace the hepa filters yearly (~$300 expense...and worth it if you had allergies)
i've rotated and replaced tires.
regenerative braking does actually significantly reduce wear on brakes.
i'm only up to 50k miles... but other owners i've spoken with expect mercedes level lifespan on the vechiles (~1 million miles)
edit: forgot about wiper fluids

I knew I could come here and see all the baws hating on it.
It's ugly as hell.
Why is it so difficult to produce a good looking electric truck?
The Tesla truck looks like it was designed by nerds in silicon valley for nerds in silicon valley. The Rivian isn't much better.
The truck market is decidedly a more conservative leaning market. Building one that looks like a big 3 truck should be prioritized over the modest gains in aero you get from that rolling triangle.

LOL at anyone who thinks this isn't 100% trolling (and mighty smart viral marketing for when the real truck comes out)

I mean 20 years ago this is what I imagined vehicles would look like...and every 80's movie had them looking like this
So we are just finally at that point that the past dictates the future

Yep. I drive a truck but I'm not opposed to electric vehicles. They would have to make one that looked a bit more traditional to ever appeal to a buyer like me though.

quote:In fairness, it seems the tablet screen/minimal or no buttons is a huge hit, Model 3 owners do love it. I'm in that camp as well, I think it's way better than a car with a bunch of buttons everywhere, and the Radio and AC, the stuff you use most are most easily accessible.

Also, if you look at the specs on what their vehicles can do, they're blowing comparable ICE vehicles out of the water, so I don't know that it's fair to say all they're trying to do is stay in the news. I mean, that behemoth of a truck is faster than a Porsche 911 lol.

Same. I’d definitely buy one of it looked less like some video game rendering.

Tesla's other vehicles rank among the safest, why do you think this truck won't? You can't tell how something is going to crush just by looking at it. The lack of a huge engine under the hood makes it easier to design crumple zones.
I say that because they marketed the truck as indestructible and hit the steel alloy with a sledge hammer to show that it wouldn't dent. You want a vehicle to dent...that's what makes it safe

He's a pickup guy and was hoping to go back to a pickup after leaving for the Tesla cars the last 5 or so years. But that's not happening now.
I'm gonna turn my sites to that Rivian SUV. I just don't want to be a 1st generation adopter to it though.

Yeah it really looks like a PS1 rendering of a warthog

The thing I like about this is that it exposes us for our vanity. If we truly just needed a truck for utility at an affordable price it would be a no brainer

What in the recycled looking pos is this?! Is it simply made from scraps of sheet metal?

But I'm gonna go ahead and bet against that.

The truck doesn’t have to dent to be safe. Cars don’t crush from the sides anyway.
I’d wager that plenty of engineering hours will be spent to make sure it absorbs energy properly for front or rear collision.
