Even my 76 year old mother who is a die hard newspaper reader canceled her subscription bc it’s too liberal and pisses her off. If they lose that crowd they’re really done for

The Baton Rouge newspaper used to be one of the best in the country.
When was this?????

They have followed all other media outlets in this country and are embarrassingly liberal.
Please explain...….

Why cant the media just factually report the news, without any bias?
You serious???????

I guess those days are gone..... I"m canceling my subscription!

The Manships sure got out while the getting was good, didn't they?
It warms my heart to know John Georges is losing his arse with that albatross of a purchase.

I get that. I like reading from actual books over online reading. The problem is that except for very rare cases, by the time I see something in the newspaper, I've already seen it 5 times online.

Georges gonna go broke.
He's already laid off a significant number of his reporters, including the "Washington, DC" correspondent and some sports writers, along with management staff. He has resorted to begging for money donations from readers to replace the lost advertising revenue. The paper has shrunk to little more than a tabloid.
I believe the Advocate will be sold to a national newspaper chain within the next year and Georges is going to take a huge loss over what he paid the Manships for the paper.

Funny you say that...
I was wondering how I could look at articles from there from 1971.
I think the EBRP Library has them all online.
General Troy Middelton Library (yes, I did that on purpose) had them on microfiche in the 70's, so I'm sure they got changed to digital somewhere along the line.

I cancelled my subscription last year and they still deliver it everyday. I called them once to let them know and they still deliver it.

Both my parents worked there for many years. Dad was the editor of the Fun section for a long time and mom worked in the "creative services" dept that changed names several times over the years.
I worked in the offset printing dept one summer in high school and had a weekend paper route.
I hate what those kids did to the great company and newspaper their father had built.

When in pluperfect frick was this?
Well, the sports section was certainly one of the best - based on my travels and reading of other major newspapers. I don’t know if that is true anymore since I cancelled my subscription 5 or 6 years ago because of the direction they chose to go.

When I was in high school/college/and beyond, the State Times / Morning Advocate was a great paper. 70s and 80s...
And the Sports Page was hands down the best in the US!
There was so much good content, there was a morning and afternoon paper! The Manship family sold the paper to John Georges in 2013 since owning the company for over 100 years.

I asked my wife to let the subscription run out. You know it's time when it sits in the driveway for 2 days then goes directly in the recycle bin.
Did someone say The Advocate was liberal? They should just print on the left side pages. It has become so small, it's more like The Advocate Newsletter. I don't know a person under 50 who subscribes, I'm 70, and I'm done.
I like Scott Rabalais columns, but he is about the only writer over there.

The Louisiana State Library also keeps a large collection of old Louisiana newspapers on microfilm on one of their floors. Free to browse.
