I intentionally avoid cars with wheels larger than 20” in diameter though.
I just paid 1150 for a set of All Terrain 3 peak tires at Costco that are 22’s plus another 130 for an alignment since they don’t do that.

Tariffs would be my guess.
The media has done an outstanding job of convincing people that everything cost twice as much not because of March-April tariff negotiations. Wow.
Anyway, I bought tires a year ago and was showing the guy how much cheaper they were in 2019. He said their prices went up after Covid and keep going up.
This was all before Trump was in office. But if you’re a liberal I know you’ll find a way to blame him.

Price motorcycle tires and then check out the typical mileage per tire.
I've been riding for 54 years and I will typically get around 12K out of a back tire and close to 20K out of a front tire. I just got a new rear tire for my cruiser and it was $250 delivered to my door. Fortunately, I have the equipment and know how to change them out and balance them myself or it would be another $150 for a shop to do it.
Changing tires on a bike is nowhere near as easy as doing a car or truck.
It's even worse for most sport bike riders since their tires are typically made with softer compounds and aggressive riding will find many of them not getting more than 7K-8K a back tire and maybe 12K for a front tire.

Recent Tariffs on tires: Modern Tire Dealer
Trump Tariffs will Aplly to Tires - Modern Tire Dealer
Also, Google “Obama Tire Tariffs”
My point is not political in nature.
So what effect will tariffing some tires have on those that aren’t tariffed?

President Donald Trump is imposing reciprocal tariffs on many countries that export tires to the United States. Seven out of the 10 biggest exporters of passenger tires to the U.S. in 2024 – Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Cambodia and Malaysia – will be subject to reciprocal tariffs, according to information published in the Federal Register. Specific countries and reciprocal rates listed include Thailand (37%), Indonesia (32%), Vietnam (46%), South Korea (26%), Japan (24%), Cambodia (49%) and Malaysia (24%). (Editor's note: These - and other rates listed in this story - are as of today.)

Trump was in office for the tariff negotiations and Covid response. Hell, they were both his ideas.

I never get anything close to the tread life rating on tires. If they are 55-60k tires I'll be lucky to get 35k out of them.
Got 65K on factory tires. I have over 65K, on the Michelin‘s I have now. An these still have more tread life. Rotation and keeping the front end aligned.

How much does it cost them to manufacture each tire they charge us $300 for? 5.00? It’s a frickin fraud.

A recent test of tires:
Among the tires purchased for testing, more models were manufactured in the U.S. than anywhere else (34 of the 137). That number has risen in recent years as more factories have been constructed in America.
We’ve bought tires manufactured in the U.S. from Arctic Claw, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Cooper, Falken, Firestone, General, Goodyear, GT Radial, Hankook, Michelin, Mickey Thompson, Nitto, Nokian, Toyo, and Yokohama.
This might help a little.

That's wild, I used to get 2 of these for lunch when I was in college. It was $2.18 total.
Yep, I remember when it was called the Dollar menu because everything on it was a dollar. Now it’s called the value menu

I have 30k on some $1200 Michelins and they are about shot. I might get 5k more out of them, and they were rated for 55 or 60k. Rotated every 7k miles or so and properly inflated.
ETA - mostly city miles and not a lot of highway.

Factory tires were Toyo, got 65K. They were in great shape, just decided to put new tires for a long trip I was taking.

Slap some Walmart tires on mine and no problems. Cheap and easy.
