The new system is supposed to be pretty tough.
I have over 412k miles on a stock 100 LX suspension that was sensor lifted and run hard and put up wet for decades. The ride selection settings even still work on it. The Toyota system is quite robust.

If he is in Houston, Duggy can probably get him hooked up with a quality install like he wants.
He can. I live 5 minutes from there. They quoted me $4500 for the auxiliary installed. That was a little too steep for me since I can do it myself as long as I can get a lift.

Yeah ain't nothing cheap about outfitting these rigs. My range and mileage was acceptable enough in my older cruisers that I decided against the tank additions.
It's one of the reasons that I went out and paid up for another low mileage 100. I intend to be in a 4.7 until I can't drive anymore lol
Unfortunately this isn't the case with the newer models and range is severely limited.

Keep in mind that some tank replacement options require you to move the spare from the stock position
I watched the install video. It’s pretty straightforward and is installed next to existing tank. Lots of clips and bolts to remove and reattach with replacing inner fuel sending unit on existing tank. Might be too much for me to DIY.

Yeah it sucks. It’s my only real complaint about it.

Extra tank is for overlanding or just because you don't like stopping for gas?

Both, trips over 8 hrs are a pain and if I’m going to camp an hr away, I need to fill up at least once +/- one day.

Gotcha. I have looked at auxiliary tanks on mine but just think they would be cool versus need.
Remember growing up with all of our trucks having two tanks.

Speaking of cars, I’m starting to look for a 1968 Shelby GT 500KR convertible, preferably KR but have looked at 500 and GT350. Any reputable places to look besides Mecum?

Bring a trailer and Facebook are usually the best deals but you have to sift through all the fakes and flakes. For FB you need to find the right group. It’s kinda like dating, just a giant filtering exercise and finding trash until you find a keeper. Or just get a broker and let them hunt down what you want.

$65K+ for a 2.4T SUV, no thanks. Maybe okay for the wife vehicle without truck duty requirements. Don't expect the Toyota reliability of old.

Give O&E speed shop a call and ask them. Tell Sammy Dolla Bill sent you if you talk to him. It’s a pretty straight forward install and as long as they’re not going to over charge you because it’s not what they do every day I would trust their work. I pit with those guys at TX2K and they’re cool.

The deal killer with the landcruiser/GX twins is the fuel range per tank. Many reports of 200ish miles per tank. frick that, I ain't trying to live with Apu at the gas station.
My OT+ is consistently over 300 miles per tank.

That twin turbo V6 has been nuking itself pretty regularly. They thought they tracked it down to manufacturing issues and got it fixed, but there’s a second wave of large scale engine failures that are happening.
Buyer beware with that particular engine currently. I’d give them another couple years to sort that thing out.

Jumping in for one crazy fact.
Sticker on my 2003 LX470 (the Lexus version of the Landcruiser) was just over $67,000. MSRP for a 2026 Landcruiser starts at $57,600.
Of course, the LX600 is just under $108,000. Calculating the current value of money...$67,000 spent in 2003 would equate to $117,300. So...keep the freaking V8 and crank the price up another 10 grand and people still would have probably bought it. Get rid of the Twin-Turbo V6. Nobody ever bought a Landcruiser because they were fast. They bought them because the could go anywhere and run forever.
Better yet...let's just end all of this crap and bring the freaking 70 Series to the US already. Give me a 70 series with a Straight 6 and I'll just about knock your down by throwing my money at you.

The amount of money people waste on vehicles in the US is astounding.
The price of vehicles is astounding. If you want anything that is not just a basic run of the mill car you’re looking at 50k and above. Maybe more.
Also, as a separate side note I’m getting sick of manufacturers putting in V4s in SUVs even if it is a turbo.
The top of the line Grand Cherokee and 4Runners having v4s is shameful.
