In the mid-1990s I collected three things: antique books from estate sales and auctions, Christopher Radko Christmas ornaments, and Pez dispensers, almost entirely from this Time Saver.

I remember riding my bike to the one on General Meyer in Algiers and always amazed at what I thought was an unlimited candy selection.

And I had every single one of those NFL cups back in the late 70s.

Friend,

Thank you for all of those intimate details about the greatest surviving Time Saver. There is no doubt that no other New Orleans business has been victim of more armed robberies than Time Saver. And it does not matter which neighborhood the Time Saver was situated, from Marrero to Chicken's Transcontinental, to my Prytania. All Time Savers were magnets for gun wielding outlaws. The story you shared about the poor young lady was tragic and the details even worse.

If I had a viable way to reach conveniently the West Bank, I would make your New York friend an offer on that building, if for no other purpose than historic preservation. We must keep that building intact as is as a monument to the least appreciated major food retailer in New Orleans history. If you have access to communication with him, please forward this thread to him. I may yet be able to purchase the building and turn it into the first ever Time Saver museum. I will be in touch with the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau regarding this idea, which I hope flies. I could see convenience store aficionados from throughout the world, not to mention the locals, flocking to a Time Saver museum.

Please keep in touch.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. If you would not also mind asking your New York friend what the ACC means on the upper border of that beautiful building, I would be grateful.

Simply stunning. The apogee of mid to late twentieth century American commercial architecture. Each angle is breathtaking in its own right.

Friend,

Words of thanks and praise towards this latest effort of your’s would simply not do it justice. Suffice it to say that you and your work are held with honor in this land.

I had the unfortunate occasion to visit a longtime friend near the following former Time Saver and did not see it mentioned or it’s address listed. Upon a quick review of this specific store (located in the land called “Slidell” by the natives and Law Enforcement Agents), I count myself fortunate to have not been forced to visit it.

It is located at 501 Voters Road, SE of Slidell propah. I checked several different sources and the name “Voters” is not possessive either in the singular or the plural sense.

And then I thought “Slidell” and simply stopped worrying about determining the propriety of the street name.

Here’s a representative image of the present store, it looks as if the new proprietors have leaned in to the Time Saver marque just a tad?

Best regards to you and your family,

I remain your dedicated correspondent-

Mssr. Füt

Postscript- I had occasion this weekend to take my early morning exercise running on Magazine Street. There is a great deal of historical fabric still to be observed there. Perhaps you could cast your considerable eye on some form of addressing a Top 10 facet of Magazine? Merely a suggestion, regards.

Friend,

It awaits an address which has never arrived.

Fut, friend, thank you for that photo and info. That is one former Time Saver I doubt I will ever visit, so to say you have widened my world view is no exaggeration.

Friends,

To celebrate New Orleans' return to the beautiful and virtuous and holy prohibition days I wanted to share with you two photos from Grandfather's immense photograph collection of lesser known New Orleans. From time to time I may release these. I never was able to ask Grandfather how he amassed such a collection, but it rivals that found in The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Time Saver #7, at the corner of Veterans and Green Acres. Notice the BBQ chickens offered for 99 cents, which is $8.71 in 2020 dollars, so actually not a bad deal at all.

Time Saver #3, Canal Blvd near the planned Bud's-Morning Call in the Waist of Canal.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Actually, he is Chris Rose trying to make a comeback.

Here is a link to the Time Saver that holds the most memories for me. I would ride my bike there multiple times per week to get Now & Later candy, Icees, Cokes, candy cigarettes among many other treats.
