You’d be surprised.

Interesting fact. The middle of Belize has a large Amish population.

Their food is awesome too. Some great cuisine on the way to the ruins

Belize>>>>80% of the US. It helps when the population doesn’t suck.

Western culture isn’t the best but doesn’t bother me.

For me, it’s more of just escaping the rat race. It would also be helpful if we enforced existing laws. I’m anti both political parties in general but hopeful things are starting to change.

People think that because they move somewhere they're standard of living skyrockets. Your money may go further, but you also have to account for the fact that things just don't work as well as they do here & alot of the conveniences we take for granted are luxuries there if they even exist at all.

I have a house in southwest Colorado & North Alabama. When I go somewhere, it's about 95 % white people, generally clean & safe, & shite works like it's supposed to. I value that more than getting more bang for my buck in a third world shithole.

Juarez is an elite level shite hole.

It categorically is not, it is a large city with an extremely high crime rate for certain but if you are not in the drug business or some other illegal activity it is great. For the region it is in it is fantastic. If you are the type of person who is wont to be afraid of shite I know it can be intimidating but if you are not suffering from irrational fears it is a great place to spend a long weekend in the region. Millions of Americans go to Juarez every year and a handful find themselves in dangerous situations. It is blown completely out of proportion.

Leaving family, job, familiar places and customs for some second or third world country makes no sense unless you’re desperate. There is nothing in Belize that cannot be found in the US and without leaving behind what you have accumulated in a lifetime. Now, if what you have accumulated is crap, that’s a whole other discussion.

Of all those things you listed, family is the only real concern. My inlaws live in another state and are planning to spend part of the year in the Caribbean. If they moved to Belize we would still see them 4 times a year, just 2 of those times would be there.

In a sermon that really hit me recently preacher talked about how we spend so much collecting stuff, including money, but it will all go away one day. Everything else you listed are things of this world that will eventually turn to dust, including the crap we accumulate. Outside of having a little money saved up for emergencies and family, I hope my inlaws and parents get rid of all their stuff and spend all their money enjoying their twilight years in a beautiful place they enjoy.

I am sure about that. Like anywhere on the planet if you are a criminal you are likely to be involved in criminal activity. If you are not the likelihood of your being involved in criminal activity is very low. Yes, for criminals and poor citizens who live in crime ridden neighborhoods in Belize the crime rate is high. Expats tend to not be poor by Belize standards of poverty and tend to not live in crime ridden neighborhoods and also tend to not be involved in criminal activity. What is being suggested is that living in Dunwoody (north Atlanta) is as likely to result in someone being the victim of crime as living in East Point or Vine City. I get it, crime is skeery and if you suffer from irrational fear and paranoia and can't bring yourself to leave the house without a pistol you are already living in a shithole in your brain. For those who do not suffer from irrational fears and other mental health disorders Belize is perfectly acceptable. I can not imagine being an adult and especially an adult man and living in fear of crime but I recognize a heaping pile of adult men do indeed imagine they are under constant threat 24-7.....

Imagine being so weak that you can't make it here, and actually thinking the shithole that is Belize is a better option.
