Sparkler lit the ceiling fire. Explosive fumes developed from the flame and then boom.
When I was young and in my 20's I wouldn't have thought twice about being in a crowded room with a single narrow exit. Now in a place like that once a crowd starts to build I'm gone.

Yes, I was thinking of the fire at The Station where Great White was playing.
A guy with a camcorder videotaped the whole thing. I wish I could unsee it.

That is horrific
But It wasn’t an explosion. It was started by firework or sparkler of some sort.
That’s the problem with Twitter. People can take any moron with a blue checkmark as real news.

Absolutely crazy to have somewhere in an “upscale” area not have better fire prevention and required exits. I’m going to assume it was a lot of ski parties and well out of normal fire code. Terrible if this was all from a sparkler

One of my dad’s clients died in this fire. I guess the details beyond the video were very, very, very brutal.

Many places in Europe do not have modern fire codes because buildings are so old.
I’ve been looking at comments on Reddit from European people and many of them say firecode is not good in a lot of old small towns

Not anymore, it isn't.

The most infamous WWII-era nightclub fire was the Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston (1942), which killed 490 people due to overcrowding, locked doors, and highly flammable decor
The 1942 Boston College football team was supposed to be there that night to celebrate a victory that afternoon that would've given them the national championship. They cancelled the celebration after a stunning 55-12 loss to arch-rival Holy Cross...which ironically, likely saved their lives.

cant imagine a worse way to go than something like this.

Sparklers on Champaign bottles started a fire that tragically kills more than 40.
Media uses it as a great opportunity to twist story into some bomb terrorist attack.
And idiots eat it up.

That happens on any kind of social media regardless of blue checkmark and really with a lot of news sites as well due to either it’s politics, reposting articles from other sites, and/or just wanting to be first to keep people checking their website or social media profile.
Sometimes those people on social media are the only ones to shine a light on an issue the “mainstream” media ignores. You take the good and bad with both types of news sources.
Also the profile (a yellow not a blue verified in this instance) can post updates later while leaving original in place which mentioned “explosion” without ever stating it was an attack of some kind and included a video made by someone there showing the place seemingly fully inflamed. It later posted updates as information was received.

In the video CNN claims to have confirmed, people seem to be standing there watching the fire expand on the ceiling.
I guess I don’t understand why they weren’t all trying to get out right away.

Can you blame them with all the terrorist attacks that were planned for New Years this year? 2 in California, one in Lousiana, Minnesota and North Carolina. Those are the ones I know about.
