I think it would be like how Bruce Jenner was woman of the year a couple years ago.

Ment aren't all Everybody loves Raymond. You know that. We'd have those kids and it would suck and you can feel this way or that about the hypothetical pain response, but we've carried humanity.

not without the help of women

Many, many things men have done to move humanity forward - but humanity cannot move forward without women

I know mama.

But if I had to have a kid I would. And don't you forget it.

Would someone have a gun to your head? “If I had to”

This thread kinda gives that vibe.

I am fine with this.
There’s too many people in the world right now. The population will ebb and flow overtime.

It will effectively end the social safety net programs in the US - Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid - will all collapse. Probably inevitable anyway.

Not yet. Only a matter of time before children are manufactured not carried by women.

It’s just the way you phrased it

If I had to, I’d carry a kid.

I do hope a majority of people in here have sons, though.

I hope everyone has a daughter. Nothing better than a girl who looks kinda like your wife but she actually loves you.

Not every person is meant to parent. I’m not sure what gives you the authority to determine what someone should want with their life.

Well my response was to someone who explicitly stated they wanted kids but wanted to wait until they could financially “give them what they deserve”

Which it a common fallacy pushed in today’s culture. The reality is that 2 things end up happening. 1 you can never fully estimate the costs so even when you are “ready” you aren’t really ready 2 people for the most part end up figuring it out. It’s natural biological instinct to protect your young.

It’s pervasive mentality to the point a gif from a movie (idiocracy) spoke to this mentality over a decade ago

People think they are being “smart” but the longer people wait the more issues they have conceiving.

Agree. Quit subsidizing those who can’t support themselves. No extra benefits after 1st kid. It’s no wonder middle class is declining to have children. It’s too expensive. It’s always been expensive and worth it and a sacrifice. But life is much more expensive now in general. I’m glad mine are grown now.

What about people who have known genetic issues? It’s irresponsible of me to breed a mare who will pass down problems, and she’s just a horse. Just gonna leave that there.

Should infertile people just go ahead and rid the world of their useless presence?

You're talking about unique rarities that affect a small portion of the population.

This thread is about a national trend of people choosing to not have kids.

The poster you replied to is right, it is completely unnatural to not have kids. I have no problem with people choosing that route, but it really takes a decision and effort to NOT have kids rather than the opposite.

Yet society has convinced people that not having kids is the default.

Meanwhile the population of the US is soaring. The middle class is disappearing and the under class is burgeoning. The upper class is stable but is commanding an ever greater share of the nation’s wealth.

You are so wrapped up in “giving them the life that they deserve” that you are preventing them from even being alive.

If they are here, and they don't get the life they deserve, I've "harmed" (let's assume I will harm in this scenario) a living being.

If they are not here, I've harmed nobody.

Which is the exact opposite of your point because you said that not having them is denying them of life. That's only a possibility if they are out there floating in the ether waiting to be created,. They are not. The child my wife and I would have if it were conceived today would be different than the one conceived tomorrow. And as of right now, both of them do not exist. I'm not denying anyone life, because no one exists to be denied.

If a child is born, however, they do exist. And any harm done to an existing child is more than harm done by not giving life to someone that doesn't exist.
